It does not turn WooCommerce’s checkout into Shopify checkout: the shopper is sent to Shopify, and the order is managed in Shopify. If you need to keep the WooCommerce cart and order workflow, use WooCommerce’s own checkout features instead.
What “Shopify checkout in WooCommerce” means
Shopify’s documented route is to create a Buy Button for a product or collection and embed its generated code on an external website, such as a WordPress site. The page can be part of a WooCommerce-powered site, but the button does not convert the WooCommerce checkout, create a shared cart, or synchronize orders between the platforms. Shopify says orders are managed and processed in the Shopify store, regardless of where the button appears. See Shopify’s Buy Button and its WordPress and external-site guidance.

How to add a Shopify Buy Button to a WordPress page
- Add the Buy Button sales channel in Shopify. Shopify’s setup begins by adding the channel to the store.
- Create a product or collection button. Choose what to sell, then customize the product presentation and checkout behavior using Shopify’s available options.
- Copy the generated embed code. Shopify provides code for the button and its product presentation.
- Insert the code in WordPress. Use an HTML or code area supported by the page editor or theme. The precise placement steps vary by editor and theme; there is no single WordPress menu path that applies to every installation.
- Save and preview the page. Confirm the embedded product and button display correctly, then follow the button through to checkout to verify the shopper’s experience.
Shopify describes the Buy Button as an embeddable product card and checkout button for external pages. Once a shopper chooses to buy, checkout takes place through Shopify rather than WooCommerce. Shopify’s instructions for adding a Buy Button to an external site note that placement depends on the site builder and theme.
Choose the checkout system that should own the order
| Approach | Checkout and order handling | What you add or build | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify Buy Button on WordPress | Shopify checkout; the order is managed in Shopify. | Generated Shopify embed code placed on a WordPress page. | You specifically want Shopify’s checkout while displaying products on an external WordPress site. |
| WooCommerce checkout API | WooCommerce creates an order from the current cart and handles payment methods. | A custom implementation using WooCommerce’s checkout API. | You want to retain the WooCommerce cart and checkout workflow. See WooCommerce’s Checkout API documentation. |
| WooCommerce shareable checkout URL | WooCommerce checkout for a ready-to-buy bundle or coupon-code offer. | A shareable checkout URL configured for the use case. See WooCommerce’s shareable checkout URL documentation. | You need a direct checkout link for a defined purchase rather than Shopify checkout embedded on a page. |
| Custom Shopify Web Components | A custom buy-now button can redirect the shopper to Shopify-hosted checkout for a selected product. | Developer-oriented custom storefront work; the Shopify documentation does not provide a full WordPress-specific deployment walkthrough. | You need a tailored storefront and have development support. See Shopify’s Storefront Web Components documentation. |
WooCommerce describes its checkout API as facilitating orders from the current cart and payment handling; it is a WooCommerce route, not a bridge to Shopify checkout. If the platform that should own checkout and orders is uncertain, decide that before embedding anything: the Buy Button path places order management in Shopify, while WooCommerce’s documented checkout features keep the flow in WooCommerce.

Troubleshoot a Buy Button that is missing or not working
- Check code placement. Make sure the editor or theme area accepts the generated code, then preview the published page rather than relying only on the editor canvas.
- Look for CSS conflicts. Site styles can hide or distort the embedded button or product card.
- Check for JavaScript errors or missing dependencies. Shopify identifies these as possible causes of a nonworking embed; browser developer tools can help reveal errors.
- Verify the product ID in the code. If the referenced product has changed or no longer matches a current product, update the button code.
- Isolate site conflicts with a simple test page. Shopify recommends trying a simpler page when diagnosing interference from the site.
Shopify also says Buy Buttons are not compatible with apps from the Shopify App Store and are not recommended on a Shopify online store or Shopify blog because they can cause cart problems. That warning concerns placing the button on Shopify’s own site; it does not establish that WooCommerce plugins generally are incompatible. See Shopify’s Buy Button FAQ.
