In Google Wallet for Android, add a payment card from Add to Wallet → Payment card → New credit or debit card. Remove it from its card details, and use Edit card order to change where payment cards appear. That display order is separate from the default card used for contactless payments, so you must change the default separately if that is what you want.
How to add a debit or credit card
- Open Google Wallet and tap Add to Wallet at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Payment card, then New credit or debit card.
- Scan the card with your camera or enter its details manually, then tap Save and continue.
- Read and accept the issuer’s terms. Complete any verification the issuer requests.
Google also supports adding eligible cards from a participating bank’s app or website using an Add to GPay option. Whether a card can be added for contactless payments depends on your country or region and whether the issuer supports it. See Google Wallet Help’s card setup instructions.

If you can’t add the card
Check that the card details match the information your issuer has, and contact the issuer if it declined the contactless setup request. Tap-to-pay also requires an eligible device and setup, including NFC, a screen lock, Google Wallet as the default payment app, and compliant, certified software. A card or other item appearing in Wallet does not necessarily mean it is eligible for contactless payment. Google’s guidance is in card setup help and tap-to-pay troubleshooting.

How to remove a card or pass
- Open Google Wallet and find the item. Swipe left through payment cards if needed; swipe up to find passes.
- Open the payment card and tap Remove payment method. For a pass, open it, scroll down, and tap Remove pass.
Removing a payment card from Wallet removes it from that device. Passes can behave differently: a pass connected to your Google Account may be removed across devices, while some passes are tied to one device. Check the item’s transfer behavior before assuming that removing it affects only the phone in your hand. See Manage items in Google Wallet and Google’s transfer guidance.

How to reorder payment cards
- At the top of Google Wallet, swipe left through your payment methods until you reach the last card.
- Tap Edit card order.
- Touch and hold a card, then drag it into the position you want. Cards nearer the top of the list appear first.
Google says, “Your default payment method isn’t changed when you update the card order.” The payment-method management instructions describe this card-order control.
Reorder passes
For passes, touch and hold a pass and drag it up or down. This is a different gesture from reordering payment cards, which uses Edit card order. Google’s Wallet instructions cover payment-card ordering and pass ordering.

How to change the default tap-to-pay card
- In Wallet, find and open the payment card you want to use by default.
- Tap Details.
- Select Make default for tap to pay.
Google Wallet Help explains that “The first payment method that you add to Google Wallet becomes your default method for contactless payments.” To use another card for a single purchase, select it before tapping to pay; changing its display position alone will not make it the default. Why your Wallet screen may look different
Google’s labels and supported features can vary by region and app version. Card support also depends on the issuer, and Google’s help pages do not provide a complete country-by-country support list. If a specific card or option is unavailable, check the live Google help instructions and ask your issuer about support in your region.
