To accept photos or videos from visitors, add a file-upload field to a WordPress form, restrict it to the formats you need, and set a size limit that works with your hosting account. Then choose where submissions are stored and test the form with real files. The WordPress Media Library is for managing site media; it does not, by itself, create a visitor-facing form workflow.
Choose a form plugin with a file-upload field
Use a form builder that provides a file-upload field. For example, WPForms documents adding and configuring its File Upload field in its File Upload Field guide and describes the feature on its file uploads page. Other form plugins may offer similar functionality, but their settings and file-storage behavior can differ.

Do not confuse this with uploading media while editing a page or using the WordPress Media Library. Those are ways to add files to a site; a form upload field lets a visitor send a file as part of a form submission.

Configure the form’s photo and video field
- Create or edit the form. Open your form plugin and select the form that should collect the files.
- Add a file-upload field. Give it a specific label, such as “Upload a photo” or “Upload a short video,” so visitors know what to provide.
- Set the accepted extensions. Allow only the formats relevant to the form. WPForms lists common image formats such as PNG, GIF, and JPG, and video formats such as MPG, MOV, and WMV. Its guide explains how to configure allowed extensions for a field: WPForms File Upload Field guide.
- Set a maximum file size. Choose a limit appropriate for the submission, then confirm that the host’s upload limit is high enough for the same file size.
- Choose where files are stored. If using WPForms, its guide documents an option to store uploaded files in the WordPress Media Library. If you choose a plugin’s own submission storage instead, check that plugin’s instructions for where administrators can retrieve files and what access controls are available.
- Publish and test the form. Submit a photo and a video using the published form, then verify that the submission and files appear where you expect in the site’s admin tools.
Describe the accepted formats and any size limit beside the field. A visitor should not have to guess which files the form will accept.

Check both plugin and hosting file-size limits
There is no universal maximum that applies to every WordPress form. The form plugin may impose a field-level limit, while the hosting provider or server may enforce a separate upload limit. WordPress says the Media > Add New screen displays the maximum upload size set by the hosting provider; see its Media Add New screen documentation.
Check the configured limit in the form field and the host’s limit before publishing. If larger files fail, compare both settings rather than assuming the form field is the only constraint. A file chooser accepting a selection in the browser does not prove that the server will accept the upload.

Allow extra file types only when necessary
WordPress restricts accepted file types by default. WPForms says, “By default, we only allow uploads of safe file types (the same ones allowed by WordPress core).” That is the vendor’s description of its default behavior, not an independent security assessment.

Do not allow every available format as a shortcut. An extension allowlist controls which file types are permitted, but allowing an extension alone does not establish that every uploaded file’s contents are safe. Keep the list narrow and consider expanded upload permissions a site security decision.

Storage location affects how you manage files after a form is submitted. WPForms documents an option to save uploads in the Media Library. WordPress explains how media attachments can be managed through its image and file attachments documentation. If your form plugin stores uploads with its submissions instead, use that plugin’s documented retrieval process and review its access settings before collecting files.

Before launch, confirm that an administrator can find the test submission and open or download its files from the intended location. Do not assume that all form plugins store uploads in the same way.
