In the US, you can add money to an eligible PayPal Balance account from a confirmed bank account or eligible debit card, reload cash at participating retailers, or receive money through direct deposit or payments. The choices, steps, fees, and timing depend on your country and account; use the options shown in your PayPal account as the final guide.
How to add money to PayPal in the US
PayPal’s US instructions offer bank transfers and, for eligible accounts, debit-card transfers. You need a confirmed bank account to use the bank-transfer route described in PayPal’s US help.

- In the app: Open your account or balance area and tap Add Money.
- On the website: Go to Wallet → Transfer Money → Add money from your bank or debit card.
- Choose an available funding method, enter the amount, and follow the on-screen instructions. The options displayed may vary by account.
PayPal says a bank transfer usually takes up to five business days; Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays do not count as business days. An eligible debit-card transfer is typically available in seconds. PayPal’s US help page lists debit-card add-money limits of up to $5,000 per day, $10,000 per week, and $20,000 per month. Can you add cash to PayPal?
Eligible US PayPal Balance users can add cash at participating retailers. PayPal lists locations including Walmart, CVS, 7-Eleven, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and Family Dollar. Its instructions say to generate a barcode in the app or use a PayPal debit card at the register, then give the cashier cash to reload.

PayPal’s US help page gives a reload amount of $20 to $500 and says funds are added within about 15 minutes. PayPal also describes cash reloads at more than 90,000 US locations and a fee of up to $3.95. A fee applies and can vary by store, so check the amount and terms with the retailer before completing the reload; PayPal does not state a publication year for these figures. Other ways money can reach your PayPal balance
Direct deposit
For an eligible US PayPal Balance account, PayPal provides account and routing numbers in settings. You can give them to an employer or another payer if that payer supports direct deposit to PayPal. Payments received through PayPal

Do you have to add money before paying?
No. If your goal is to pay a merchant, you can link and confirm a bank account, debit card, or credit card, then choose that funding source at checkout. That lets you pay through PayPal without first loading a stored balance. PayPal US: Add money and payment options

If the Add Money option is missing
