The fastest way to add an email account on a Samsung Galaxy phone is through Samsung Email. Pick your provider from the list, sign in with your address and password, and the app fills in the server details for you. If your provider is not listed, or automatic setup fails, choose Other and enter the incoming and outgoing server settings that your email provider publishes. You can also add the same account from the phone’s Settings app. Menu names and available options depend on your model, carrier, software version, and region, so the labels on your screen may differ slightly from those shown here.
Before you start
- Your email address and password. Have them ready. Some providers ask for an additional sign-in step or a separate app-specific password, so check your provider’s help pages if the standard password is rejected.
- Samsung Email installed. Open the app named Email or Samsung Email. If it is missing, download it from Galaxy Store or Google Play. The provider’s own app is another supported way to reach the account, covered below.
- Account access enabled at the provider. Some providers require you to turn on access for third-party email clients before a phone can connect. Sign in to the account on a computer’s web browser to check for this option.
Option 1: Automatic setup in Samsung Email
Automatic setup works when Samsung Email recognizes your provider. Samsung’s guidance names Google, Yahoo, and Outlook as examples where the app can determine the account type and server settings on its own.

- Open Samsung Email.
- Select your email provider from the list.
- Enter your email address and password, then follow the sign-in prompts. Additional prompts or consent screens may appear, and they differ by provider.
- When the account is connected, your messages begin to sync.
To add a second address later, open the app’s menu or settings and choose Add account. Samsung Email can hold several accounts, and each one keeps its own sync setup.

Use manual setup when your provider is not in the list, or when automatic setup stops at an error. You will need the incoming and outgoing server details from your provider. Do not copy values from another provider’s guide, because a wrong hostname, port, or encryption setting will block sign-in.

- In Samsung Email, select Other.
- Enter your email address and the account details requested.
- Select Manual setup.
- Choose an account type. Samsung recommends IMAP if you read the same mailbox on more than one device, because changes such as read status and folder moves stay in sync across devices. POP3 is the other option the app may offer; it generally downloads messages to one device rather than keeping them on the server.
- Enter the incoming server and outgoing server details exactly as your provider lists them, then finish the sign-in.
Option 3: Add the account from phone Settings
If you prefer to manage accounts system-wide, use the Settings app. The route is:
- Open Settings.
- Select Accounts and backup, then Manage accounts.
- Tap Add account and select your email provider.
- Enter your credentials and follow any additional prompts.
On some devices the list of providers is the same one Samsung Email uses, so the same provider-specific steps apply. Samsung’s US support material notes that screens and settings vary by carrier, software version, and model, so if the labels differ, look for the equivalent account or provider-selection option.

Choosing between Samsung Email and the provider’s app

Use Samsung Email if you want one place for several addresses. Use the provider’s app if you need a feature that only the provider builds into its client, or if Samsung Email cannot connect to that account.

- Sign-in is rejected. Confirm the email address and password, and check for typos in both. If the provider uses a separate app-specific password for mail clients, use that instead of your normal password.
- Automatic setup stops or the provider is missing. Return to the provider list, select Other, and use manual setup with the server details from the provider.
- Connection fails after you enter server details. Compare the incoming and outgoing hostnames, ports, and encryption settings with the provider’s published list. These values are set by the provider, and this guide cannot list them because they vary by service.
- Mail client access is blocked. Check whether the provider requires IMAP or POP3 access to be enabled in its web account settings, then retry. Provider rules differ, so confirm the requirement on the provider’s site.
- Your provider’s option is not in the list. Use the manual setup path above, or add the account through the provider’s own app.
For provider-specific server settings, search the name of your provider with “IMAP settings” or “mail client settings” and use the page published by the provider itself.

Samsung’s setup guidance for Colombia was updated on 24 September 2026, and its UK guide was last updated on 3 January 2023. The core steps are consistent across the regional guides, but the screens in your phone may be newer or older than either version.
No setting in this guide is universal. The exact server values, encryption choices, and sign-in steps depend on your provider and your phone.

Email accounts are only as reliable as the server behind them, so the final check is simple: send yourself a test message and reply to it from the phone. If both directions work and the account continues to sync after a restart, the setup is complete.
