You can move it, resize it if a handle appears, or combine compatible widgets in a stack. The available widgets and controls depend on your phone, One UI version, installed apps, carrier, and region.
What Galaxy widgets do
A widget puts an app’s information or a shortcut directly on a screen, so you can check or open something without first navigating through the app. Samsung examples include Weather, SmartThings routines, email, Camera, Samsung Notes, Spotify, and YouTube. What you can add depends on which apps and widgets your phone supports.

Home screen widgets and Lock Screen widgets are separate options: they occupy different places and may offer different actions. A stack, meanwhile, groups multiple Home screen widgets in the same area and lets you swipe between them.
Add a widget to the Home screen
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen.
- Tap Widgets.
- Browse or scroll to an app, then select the widget you want and any offered size or option.
- Tap Add.

Move, resize, or customize a widget
Move or remove it
Touch and hold the widget, then drag it to a new place. You can move it to another Home screen by dragging it toward the screen edge. To remove it, touch and hold it and tap Remove.
Resize it
Touch and hold the widget. If a handle appears on its outline, drag the handle to change the widget’s size. No handle means that widget does not offer resizing through this control.

Check its settings
Touch and hold the widget and tap Settings if that option is available. Depending on the app and widget, settings may let you change the background color, transparency, or the information shown. Not every widget has settings or supports customization; missing controls do not necessarily indicate a problem.

- Touch and hold an existing Home screen widget and choose Create stack.
- Choose another available widget and any offered option, then tap Add.
- Swipe left or right across the stack to view its widgets.
To change the contents, touch and hold the stack and choose Edit stack. Samsung’s US instructions describe adding a widget with the plus sign and removing one with the red minus control. The exact editing options can vary by software and model; Samsung Canada’s stacked-widget guidance also notes that availability depends on the phone and UI version.
Do not assume a stack will rotate widgets automatically. Samsung’s US support page says auto-rotation is unavailable on One UI 6.1.1 or higher; behavior and controls may differ across models and software.

Add widgets to the Lock Screen
Lock Screen widget controls are version- and device-specific. Samsung’s example is for a Galaxy S25 running One UI 8: touch and hold an empty part of the Lock Screen, tap Add widgets, choose from the available categories, and drag items to rearrange them. That route should not be assumed to apply to every Galaxy phone. See Samsung UK’s Galaxy S25 Lock Screen widget instructions.
One UI 7: show or hide widget labels
Samsung’s One UI 7 support material says widget names are hidden by default on the Home screen, except for default Samsung app widgets and Google’s Search widget. To show names, open Home screen settings and enable Widget labels. This setting is specific to the One UI 7 instructions; its presence or location may differ on other versions. Troubleshoot a missing or unavailable widget
- Check other Home screen pages. Swipe across the Home screens in case the widget was moved.
- Look in the Widgets list. Touch and hold an empty Home screen area, tap Widgets, and browse again; the widget may have been removed from the screen.
- Check for a stack. Swipe across any stack, or open its edit screen, to see whether the widget is grouped with others.
- Confirm the app offers a widget. Some apps have no widget, and Samsung says widgets that are no longer supported may be unavailable.
- Update the relevant app. App updates may affect widget availability or behavior.
- Check restrictions. Device settings or a company-managed work profile may limit widgets.
