If your LG TV has a black screen, start with a power reset—not a factory reset. You can do the power reset without seeing the menu: unplug the TV, hold its physical Power button for about 10 seconds, reconnect it, and turn it on. Then check for a volume bar or “No Signal” message to decide whether the problem may be the input or an external device. A factory reset requires a usable screen and erases personal settings.
Power reset the TV without using the menu
LG recommends this power-reset sequence for a TV with no picture and no sound. It is different from a factory reset and does not require navigating the on-screen settings.

- Disconnect the TV’s power cable from the TV or the wall outlet.
- Press and hold the TV’s physical Power button for about 10 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cable, then turn on the TV.
If the screen remains black, use the checks below before considering a factory reset. A reset cannot be assumed to fix a hardware fault.
Use on-screen clues to check the input and connected devices
See whether the TV can display an overlay
Press a volume button on the remote. If the volume bar appears, the TV can display an on-screen element, so check the connected device and its cable. If the bar does not appear, LG says the issue may be with the TV itself. LG’s no-picture troubleshooting guide describes this check.

Check for “No Signal”
If a “No Signal” message appears, confirm that the TV is set to the input used by the device and that the device is powered on. Unplug and firmly reconnect the HDMI cable at both ends. A loose connection is one possible cause of a dark picture; replacing the cable is only worth considering if inspection suggests the existing one is damaged. LG’s dark-picture guidance also lists picture settings and possible hardware issues among the causes.
Choose the right kind of reset

Factory reset only when you can see and use the menus

- A full factory reset removes installed apps and personal settings or saved data; some newer TVs offer a network-settings-preserving option.
- Do not unplug or turn off the TV while the reset is in progress.
When to stop resetting and get support
If the TV remains on but the screen stays blank with no messages after the power reset and basic input checks, LG says it may need professional inspection. Contact LG Customer Support for help. A persistent blank display may not be repairable with a settings reset.
