The names, available actions, and even module availability can differ by Galaxy model, software release, device language, and NavStar version. If a label or option in this guide is missing, check Galaxy Store and Good Lock on your own phone rather than assuming the feature is supported.

What you need before starting
This procedure changes the on-screen navigation bar on a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone. It does not add a physical key or alter the phone’s hardware. You need:

- A working Galaxy Store connection so Good Lock and its modules can be installed or updated.
- The Good Lock app and the NavStar module.
- A navigation-bar setup you are willing to change. Keep in mind that the exact controls and labels can vary by model and software version.
Samsung describes Good Lock as a suite of customization applications for Galaxy devices. The relevant application for navigation-bar layouts, icons, and extra feature buttons is NavStar.

Choose the right Good Lock module
Good Lock contains several separate modules. Choosing the wrong one is the most common reason a search for “custom buttons” leads to the wrong settings.

If you mean a button that appears beside the Back, Home, or Recents controls at the bottom of the screen, continue with NavStar. If you mean a tile in the swipe-down Quick panel, look at QuickStar instead. If you mean a key while typing, Keys Cafe is the appropriate module.
Install Good Lock and NavStar
1. Install Good Lock from Galaxy Store
- Open Galaxy Store on your Galaxy phone.
- Search for Good Lock.
- Install the Good Lock app, then open it and complete its initial setup.
Samsung says additional Good Lock applications can be downloaded or updated from inside Good Lock. If Galaxy Store does not show Good Lock, availability may be restricted by your phone model, software version, or region. Verify that you are using the Galaxy Store associated with the Samsung account and device you intend to customize.

- In Good Lock, open the Make up section.
- Find NavStar and tap its install control.
- Wait for the module to finish installing, then open NavStar.
NavStar is installed as a Good Lock module rather than as a separate app found through the normal app list. Good Lock may offer module updates later; installing the current version shown for your phone can restore labels or settings that changed after a system update.

Add buttons to the navigation bar
Samsung’s walkthrough uses a configuration-based workflow. You create a layout, add the buttons inside that layout, save it, and then select the saved layout.
1. Start NavStar and enable it
- Open NavStar from Good Lock.
- Tap Start if NavStar displays an introductory screen.
- Allow the access requested by NavStar.
- Turn NavStar on using its enable switch.
Do not stop after installing the module. A newly installed module still needs to be started and enabled before its configuration can affect the navigation bar.
2. Create a new configuration
- Tap New Configuration.
- Open Button layout.
- Tap Add button.
The wording can differ slightly when your phone uses another display language or a different NavStar release. Look for the controls that create a navigation-bar configuration and add a button to its layout.
3. Select the extra buttons
- Choose the feature buttons you want to place on the navigation bar.
- Select no more than two extra buttons; this is the limit stated in Samsung’s walkthrough.
- Tap Done after making your selection.
Samsung illustrates the feature with a screenshot action and a command to move to the next track. Those are examples, not a promise that every Galaxy model or NavStar version exposes the same action list. If an action is absent, use the actions actually displayed by NavStar on your device.

4. Save and activate the layout
- Tap Save to store the configuration.
- In NavStar’s list of available navigation-bar layouts, tap the saved configuration you just created.
- Return to the home screen or another app and check the navigation bar.
The configuration is not active merely because it was saved. Selecting the saved navigation bar is the final activation step. If the old layout remains visible, reopen NavStar and make sure the saved configuration is selected and NavStar’s main switch is still on.
Check the result without losing your way back
Test the new layout in a low-risk place before relying on it. Open a screen where the navigation bar is visible and verify that:
- The original navigation controls still appear where you expect them.
- The added buttons are visible and in the intended order.
- Tapping an added button performs the action shown by NavStar.
- Back, Home, or Recents remains usable.
If a button is difficult to reach or its action is not useful in your daily workflow, return to NavStar and select a different configuration or adjust the available layout choices. Keep at least one known-working navigation layout available so you can switch back if the customized arrangement becomes inconvenient.

What “custom buttons” can and cannot mean here
Navigation-bar buttons
NavStar is the correct choice when the control should sit in the on-screen navigation area. Samsung’s documented process supports adding up to two extra buttons to a new navigation-bar configuration. The examples supplied by Samsung include capturing a screenshot and moving to the next music track.

Quick-panel buttons
QuickStar is for the status bar and Quick panel. Its button-grid and panel options affect the area revealed when you swipe down from the top of the screen; they do not add controls beside the navigation buttons at the bottom.
Keyboard keys
Keys Cafe changes the Samsung Keyboard. It can add, remove, rearrange, and style keyboard keys, but those keys appear only while the keyboard is open and are unrelated to NavStar’s navigation-bar layout.
Gesture navigation
Samsung also describes NavStar as providing gesture-mode options. The exact gesture settings and available controls depend on the Galaxy model and software version. If your phone is using gesture navigation rather than the traditional navigation buttons, open NavStar and review the options it actually presents instead of assuming that every button-layout control will be available.
Troubleshooting
Good Lock is not listed in Galaxy Store
Samsung states that Good Lock features and settings vary by phone model and software version. Confirm that the phone is a Galaxy device supported in your region and that Galaxy Store is up to date. If Good Lock still does not appear, the feature may not be offered for that model or software release.

NavStar does not appear under Make up
First, check that Good Lock itself finished installing and that you are looking in Make up, not another Good Lock section. Availability can vary by model, region, and software version. A system or module update can also change the displayed list and labels. Install any update Galaxy Store offers, then reopen Good Lock.
NavStar opens but the navigation bar does not change
- Confirm that you tapped Start, granted the requested access, and switched NavStar on.
- Confirm that you tapped Save after adding buttons.
- Confirm that you selected the saved configuration; saving alone does not activate it.
- Check whether your current navigation mode exposes the layout options you configured.
An action shown in Samsung’s example is missing
The screenshot and next-track controls are Samsung’s examples, not a universal action list. NavStar’s available actions can differ between Galaxy models and software versions. Use an action that appears in your own Add button list; do not assume that installing the module guarantees a particular command.
The labels do not match this guide
Samsung notes that displayed labels may change with device language, software release, and module version. Look for the equivalent controls: start or enable NavStar, create a new configuration, open the button-layout editor, add a button, finish, save, and select the saved layout.
You want to return to the standard layout
Open NavStar and select the original or standard navigation-bar layout shown on your phone. If you cannot identify it, turn NavStar off and check whether the system returns to its previous navigation arrangement. The exact name of the default entry can vary, so select the option your device identifies as its standard layout.
A practical setup checklist
- Good Lock was installed from Galaxy Store.
- NavStar was installed from Good Lock’s Make up section.
- NavStar was started, granted access, and enabled.
- A new configuration was created.
- Button layout → Add button was used to choose the controls.
- No more than two extra buttons were selected.
- Done was tapped after choosing buttons.
- Save was tapped.
- The saved navigation bar was selected to activate it.
- The result was tested with Back, Home, or Recents still accessible.
How to decide which setup is right
Start with the location of the control rather than the name of the feature. A control needed at the bottom of the screen belongs in NavStar. A control needed in the swipe-down panel belongs in QuickStar. A control needed while typing belongs in Keys Cafe. This distinction prevents you from installing several modules when one is sufficient.
Because Samsung limits the documented NavStar workflow to two extra buttons, choose actions you use frequently. A screenshot shortcut may be useful if you capture screens often; a next-track shortcut may suit a phone used as a music player. If neither action appears on your phone, select from the alternatives NavStar offers rather than trying to force an unavailable command.
Finally, treat compatibility as device-specific. Samsung’s support material explicitly cautions that Good Lock features and settings vary by Galaxy model and software version. The safest workflow is therefore to compare the labels and action list on your own phone with the steps above, keep the standard layout available, and test the saved configuration before depending on it.
