Recommended Free Tools
You can add your own photos or artwork to Samsung The Frame using either the SmartThings app or a USB storage device. Prepare and crop images before importing: Samsung says photos cannot be edited on the TV itself, and supported formats, storage limits, and image recommendations vary by model.
Choose SmartThings or USB
| Method | Best suited to | What you need | Main caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| SmartThings app | Images on your phone or available through supported phone workflows | The Frame registered in SmartThings; account and network requirements may apply | App screens and steps can vary by software version and region. See Samsung’s artwork guide and Art Mode instructions. |
| USB storage | Image files prepared on a computer or another storage device | Compatible USB storage connected to the TV or One Connect Box, depending on model | Check format support for your model, and do not remove the drive until saving is complete. See Samsung’s artwork guide. |
Use SmartThings when the images are already on your phone. Choose USB when you have files on a computer or removable storage and prefer to import them directly. Neither method requires an Art Store membership.

Prepare images before importing
Crop, resize, or otherwise edit your image before sending it to the TV. Samsung states, “You cannot edit photos on the TV itself.” Use an image editor on a phone or computer, and check the manual or support page for your exact TV model if you are unsure which file types or dimensions it accepts.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Specifications are not universal across The Frame range. For example, Samsung Canada’s page for the 32-inch LS03C specifies JPEG and recommends 1920 × 1080 pixels at 16:9; that is a model-specific recommendation, not a rule for every Frame TV. Samsung’s US design information says image storage is 4 GB or 6 GB depending on model and warns that some formats may not be supported. Check your model’s details rather than assuming these figures apply to your TV.

Add art with the SmartThings app
- If the TV is not registered, add it to SmartThings first.
- Open the TV in SmartThings and select Art Mode.
- Tap Add Your Photos, select the prepared images, then choose Save on The Frame.
- Choose an image to display. Samsung’s documented workflow also offers artistic effects and slideshow use.
Samsung’s US instructions describe this flow, but app labels or screens may differ with region and software. If the TV does not appear in the app, first check that it is registered there and that your phone and TV meet the app’s network and account requirements.
Import art from a USB drive
- Copy the prepared image files to a USB storage device.
- Connect the device to the TV’s USB port or the One Connect Box, as appropriate for your model.
- Put the TV in Art Mode and open My Collection.
- Select the USB device, choose Save, select the images you want, and confirm with Save Selected.
- After the import finishes, go to My Collection → My Photos to choose an image to display.
Leave the USB device connected until the save process has finished. Samsung documents both this route and the SmartThings route in its artwork guide and Art Mode instructions.

What to check if an image will not import
- Unsupported format: Confirm the accepted formats in the support information for your exact model. A JPEG requirement listed for one model does not establish support for every model.
- Unexpected crop or fit: Prepare the composition on a phone or computer before uploading; the TV itself cannot edit photos.
- USB image missing: Confirm that the drive is connected to the correct port or One Connect Box and that the TV is in Art Mode with My Collection open.
- Save does not complete: Keep the USB device connected until the selected images have finished saving. If the import still fails, consult the TV’s model-specific manual or Samsung support page for file and storage limits.
Custom photos versus Samsung Art Store
Personal images can be added through SmartThings or USB without an Art Store membership. The Art Store is an optional route to Samsung’s curated collection, not a requirement for displaying your own work. Samsung Canada notes that its Art Mode instructions concern TVs sold in Canada and that screens and settings can vary by region; consult the relevant local support page when labels or options differ.
Appearance options also vary by product and market. For example, Samsung Canada’s LS03D page describes five matte layouts and 16 colors for that product family and page; do not assume those choices are available on every Frame model.
