If the item does not exist yet, create it first so you can pass its item ID to the upload action. Test the screenshot-to-file mapping in your own Zap before publishing; the available action listings do not guarantee that every account exposes the screenshot output in a directly uploadable format.
What you need before building the Zap
- A monday.com account connected to Zapier. Zapier’s monday.com setup guide says the connected account needs Admin or Member access to the relevant board and workspace, and a monday.com Standard plan or higher.
- A trigger that provides the webpage URL to capture. It can be a Chrome extension event or another URL-bearing trigger for your workflow.
- A screenshot action and a target monday.com item with a file column. If the item is not yet on the board, add a Create Item step before uploading.
To connect monday.com, use Zapier’s Apps page and provide the personal access token when prompted. monday.com describes Zapier as a third-party platform for building integrations in its guide, How to create an integration using Zapier.

Build the Zap step by step
1. Choose a URL-bearing trigger
Start with the event that should cause a screenshot to be added. Zapier’s Chrome extension New Push trigger can provide a page title, URL, timestamp, and triggering user. If another app already supplies the webpage URL, use its relevant trigger instead. During setup, confirm the trigger’s sample data includes the full URL you intend to capture.

2. Add a screenshot action
Choose a screenshot integration and map the trigger’s URL into its webpage or website URL field. Two actions documented in Zapier’s listings are:

- HTML to Image — Convert URL to Image (Screenshot a Website): accepts a Webpage URL and offers full-page capture, wait seconds, image quality, and a generated image URL.
These listings describe fields and options, not comparative image fidelity, service limits, or pricing. Inspect the fields available in your Zap editor and check what the action returns. In particular, a generated image URL is not proven to be accepted as a file by every account’s monday.com upload step; verify that mapping in a test.
3. Create the monday.com item if necessary
If the task already exists, use its item ID. Otherwise, add monday.com’s Create Item action before the upload step, then map the board, group if needed, and item name. Use the item ID returned by Create Item in the next step. The integration listing also offers Create Update, which may record a note or source URL, but its listing does not establish that it attaches a screenshot.
4. Upload the screenshot to a file column
Add monday.com’s Upload File to Specific Column action. Map the inputs as follows:

Zapier’s action listing specifies these inputs. The precise way to map screenshot output into the File field depends on the actions available in your account, so do not assume a URL field and a file field are interchangeable.
5. Test the complete path, then publish
- Run the trigger with a sample event containing a webpage URL.
- Test the screenshot action and inspect its output in Zapier’s editor.
- Test the upload step with a known board, item, and file column.
- Open the monday.com task and confirm the screenshot appears in the intended column. Check that the image opens and that the filename is useful.
- Review the item details and test results, then publish the Zap when the mapping works. monday.com’s Zapier integration guide likewise describes reviewing and testing before publishing.

If the task only needs a webpage reference, skip screenshot generation and file upload. Zapier’s Chrome extension New Push trigger can provide the page title and URL, along with timestamp and triggering user, to a monday.com Create Item action. This creates a task with link and metadata rather than an image attachment.
Troubleshooting
The screenshot action runs, but the upload step has no usable file
Inspect the screenshot step’s test output and the upload action’s File input. If the screenshot integration returns only a generated image URL and the editor will not accept it as a file, do not map that URL blindly. Try an output field the upload action accepts or use a capture route whose returned data can be mapped as a file. Test with a sample item before turning the Zap on.
The upload targets the wrong task or fails to find an item
Check that the Board ID and Item ID belong together, and that the upload step uses the ID returned by Create Item when the Zap creates a new task. Ensure the selected board has the file column you chose.

The item is created but no screenshot appears
Check the Zap run history for the upload step, verify that the File field contains the screenshot output rather than only the source webpage URL, and confirm that the selected column is a file column. Re-test the upload against the same item before publishing again.

Reconnect monday.com through Zapier’s Apps page and provide the required personal access token. Confirm the connected account has Admin or Member access to the relevant board and workspace and meets Zapier’s stated Standard plan-or-higher requirement.
The screenshot captures an incomplete or poorly timed page
Use the screenshot action’s available wait or full-page settings, then test the actual page. PagePixels documents waits and full-page mode; HTML to Image documents wait seconds and full-page capture. The right setting depends on the page’s loading behavior, so validate the resulting image rather than assuming a fixed delay works everywhere.
