To add a scoreboard to a sports live stream, create a sport-specific scoreboard, copy its public display URL, and add that URL to your production software as a browser source. In OBS, use a Browser source; in vMix, add a Web Browser input. Match the source dimensions to your production canvas, place it above the game video, and test score updates before going live. A separate phone, tablet, or computer can run the scoreboard controls while you operate the production.
How the scoreboard overlay works
The scoreboard service provides two things: a display page that renders the graphic and a control page for entering scores and other game information. OBS or vMix loads the display page and composites it over the camera or video feed. These are separate jobs: the scorekeeper can operate the control page on another device while the producer manages the live program.

Use the public display or overlay URL in the production source. If the service provides a separate private control URL, do not use that as the on-screen graphic.

- Choose a scoreboard designed for the sport, with the fields you need, such as score, clock, period, half, set, quarter, or player information. Available controls vary by service and sport.
- Set the teams, colors, layout, and any sport-specific options in the scoreboard service.
- Know the resolution of your production canvas. The browser source should match that resolution; 1920 × 1080 is a common full-HD example, not a setting to use automatically if your production is configured differently.
- Have a separate device or browser available for scorekeeping if possible.
Add a scoreboard to OBS
- Create the scoreboard: In your scoreboard service, choose the sport and configure the teams, layout, colors, and fields required for the game.
- Copy the display URL: Copy the public overlay or display link, not the control-panel link if the service distinguishes them.
- Add a Browser source: In OBS, select the scene that will carry the graphic. In the Sources panel, click +, choose Browser, name the source, and paste in the display URL.
- Set the dimensions: Set the Browser source width and height to the OBS Base Canvas Resolution. Use your actual canvas values rather than assuming the example 1920 × 1080 resolution.
- Layer and position it: Put the Browser source above the camera or game-video source in the Sources list. Resize or position it so the score is legible and does not cover important action, then lock the source to prevent accidental movement.
- Test score control: Open the scoreboard control panel on a second device or separate browser. Change the score and clock and verify that the OBS preview updates.
- Rehearse: Run a private or unlisted test stream before match day. Check that the source is visible, the controls update it, the chosen sport fields are correct, and both devices can reach the service.
Score, clock, period or half, set or quarter, substitutions, player names, and sponsor graphics may be available, but these controls depend on the particular service and sport. Confirm the feature set before building the production around it.
#1 Best Overall
- UNMATCHED 12CH INPUT FLEXIBILITY: Connect 8 cameras directly via HDMI (up to 4K60) or 3G-SDI (1080P60). 4 AUX channels support 4 NDI/SRT/RTMP IP (perfect for PTZ), 2 USB webcams, or 2 built-in MP4 players to play pre-recorded ads or run instant slow-motion replays without costly external devices.
- ROCK-SOLID HARDWARE STABILITY: Say goodbye to monitoring CPU usage, lag, dropped frames, and crashes. Unlike software mixers that limit the features you can run at once, our hardware video switcher utilizes dedicated FPGA processing to handle every feature simultaneously under full load, ensuring absolute stability.
- ISO REC & OUTPUT ROUTING: Record PGM & 8 ISO channels to SSD/CFexpress with zero dropped frames, and stream to 3 platforms. Route any of 12 inputs, PVW, PGM, MultiSource, or M/V to 4 assignable, ultra-low latency outputs (2 HDMI/2 SDI) for IMAG on LED walls, projectors, or confidence monitors.
- BROADCAST GRAPHICS & BRANDING: Overlay transparent graphics (scoreboards, tickers) directly from your PC (vMix, ProPresenter) via HDMI with Alpha-channel support. Run custom Stinger transitions using built-in media players—no expensive external hardware required.
- 5-LAYER MULTISOURCE & VIDEO EFFECTS: Build stunning TV-style layouts with our powerful MultiSource engine, featuring 4 customizable video windows and 1 still/motion background for talk shows, sports & webinars. Use 4 Upstream Keys for Chroma/PiP/LUMA, plus 2 DSKs for logos and lower thirds.
Add a scoreboard to vMix
- Create or open the scoreboard and copy its public display URL.
- In vMix, choose Add Input, open Web Browser, paste the URL, and add the input.
- Activate the input with a numbered overlay button so it appears over the program video.
- Open the input’s Position settings to zoom, move, or crop the graphic into place.
- Operate the control panel from another computer, phone, or tablet, and confirm that score changes reach the vMix program output.
The score operator can work separately from the person using vMix’s production controls.
Using a different production tool
A URL-based scoreboard can work in other production software that accepts a web URL, but the exact input type and transparency behavior vary. OBScoreboard lists OBS Studio, vMix, Streamlabs, Wirecast, YoloBox, Ecamm Live, and XSplit on its integrations page; treat this as the provider’s compatibility claim and check both the current software and overlay-provider instructions before relying on it. Hardware switchers may use a different overlay workflow or link format than OBS.
Troubleshoot common scoreboard problems
- Nothing appears: Check that the Browser or Web Browser source is enabled and above the video layer. Confirm that you pasted the display URL and that the production computer has network access.
- The graphic is blurry, cropped, or the wrong size: Set the source dimensions to the actual canvas or output resolution. Reset unintended transforms, then resize and position the source again.
- The score does not change: Confirm the control panel is connected and that the production source uses the display URL rather than the control URL. Once the link is verified, reload or refresh the source if needed.
- The background is black or transparency is wrong: Check the overlay provider’s instructions and the production software’s settings. Do not assume a hardware switcher handles transparency in the same way as OBS.
- The clock resets after changing scenes: Some web sources reload when hidden. Check the source’s shutdown or reload behavior and whether the scoreboard service resynchronizes its state after a reload.
- The vMix browser input is slow or will not load: Check connectivity and firewall access. KeepTheScore’s vMix setup guidance recommends wired Ethernet, closing unnecessary browser tabs, and checking graphics or browser settings as practical checks—not guaranteed fixes.
Choose and test the scoreboard service
Before committing to a service, check whether it supports your sport’s scoring rules, the kind of graphic you want (such as a compact scorebug or a full board), and the clock and game fields you need. Also verify second-device or multi-operator control, branding options, compatibility with your production software, and behavior on the internet connection available at the venue. Compare current pricing and account limits directly with each provider; the available sources do not establish a consistent, independently verified price comparison.

Or let it run in the cloud
A scoreboard overlay handles the graphic; it does not keep a video stream running by itself. If you also want uploaded video to run continuously on a YouTube channel, StreamNeo keeps it live from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The video streams as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded video to YouTube; it is not a camera-based scoreboard or live production system. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
