Choose the destination
Decide what you want viewers to open—for example, the product page shown in the demo. Generate or export a QR code as an image, then scan it with a phone to verify that it opens the intended destination. Testing the code independently helps separate a bad or incorrect QR destination from a streaming or overlay problem.

Make it readable on screen
Use a high-contrast image and place it where it does not cover the product, important demo details, or on-screen controls. Judge its size from the likely viewing distance and test it on a screen comparable to the one your audience may use. A code that looks clear on your editing monitor may be too small to scan on a phone.
Add the QR image to your encoder layout
YouTube’s encoder workflow supports advanced production, including overlays and graphics. Add the QR image to the scene or layout used for the looping demo. The exact steps vary by encoder, so use the current instructions for your software rather than assuming that every encoder labels or handles image overlays the same way. Check the complete composed layout, not just the QR image in isolation. Confirm that the code stays visible while the demo loops and that it does not obscure the part of the product viewers need to see.
Connect the encoder to YouTube Live

In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and open its Live Control Room.

Use the stream URL and stream key provided by YouTube to configure the encoder’s YouTube connection. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Keep the stream key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream; do not display it in the demo or include it in a QR destination.

Preview and test before the demo
Before the event, test the stream with audio and video activity similar to what the real demo will contain. Use YouTube’s preview and monitor stream health as YouTube recommends in its encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance.

Check that the loop plays as intended and that the QR image appears throughout the relevant portions.

Scan the QR code from the preview or a test viewing screen, not only from the original image file.

Confirm that it opens the correct product destination and remains scannable at the displayed size.

If you stream in both horizontal and vertical formats, inspect each layout separately. Cropping can hide the code or make it too small in one format.
Common QR overlay problems
