Choose the camera setup that fits your space

Add a USB webcam to an OBS scene
Use this route when the pet’s usual location is within the webcam cable’s reach of the streaming computer.

- In OBS, create or select the scene where you want the pet camera to appear.
- In the Sources panel, select +, choose Video Capture Source, and create a new source or select an existing one.
- Choose the connected webcam in the device properties. Confirm that its picture appears in the preview.
- Position and resize the source in the preview so the pet is visible without covering other important scene elements. OBS documents adding, positioning, and resizing a webcam source in its webcam instructions.
A cable is practical only if the pet’s space is close enough to the computer. If it is not, use a second device or a supported network feed rather than assuming a longer cable or a particular camera will suit your setup.
Use a phone, tablet, or laptop as a second camera
Streamlabs’ Collab Cam tutorial describes bringing another camera-equipped device into a stream. It says the second device needs a camera, internet access, and a browser. Its instructions describe creating a Collab Cam source, opening the provided link on the second device, allowing camera access, selecting a camera, joining, and positioning the resulting source. The precise labels may change, so follow the current prompts in the software.

- For best performance: keep firmware updated by checking the Tapo or Kasa App.
- In the streaming software, create a Collab Cam source and generate or open its joining link.
- On the phone, tablet, or laptop you will place near the pet, open that link in a browser.
- Grant camera permission, select the camera you want to use, and join the session.
- Return to the main streaming scene and position and resize the incoming camera source.
Streamlabs’ tutorial says Collab Cam is free for one guest or second camera; that is a vendor statement, not a guarantee of current terms. Check Streamlabs’ current terms before relying on that allowance. A stable mount or tripod can help keep the view steady, but it is optional; place the device securely where the pet cannot knock it over.
Bring in a camera app or an RTSP feed
Camera app or online browser feed
Some setups can show a pet-camera view by opening its app through a computer phone emulator, or by adding an online camera feed as a browser source. This works only if the camera’s view is accessible to the computer and usable by your streaming software; camera, emulator, and software compatibility is not universal. Streamlabs describes these as possible approaches, not a guarantee for every device.
Network camera with RTSP
An RTSP source is an option only if the camera supports RTSP and the streaming computer can reach the camera over the network. AVer’s OBS plugin manual gives an RTSP input example and describes those prerequisites, but it is not a compatibility guide for every consumer pet camera. Check the camera maker’s documentation for the model-specific stream address and connection steps before entering a URL.

Keep camera credentials private. Do not show a URL containing a username or password in a public scene, stream, or screenshot.
Frame the shot and control when viewers see it
Put the camera where it can capture the pet comfortably, then adjust the source position, crop, and size in the scene. Check the preview from the viewer’s perspective: make sure the animal is in frame and that the pet cam does not obscure other content. A stable support is helpful but not essential.
If the pet view should appear only at certain moments, use the source’s visibility control to hide or show it. Streamlabs also describes assigning hotkeys to show or hide the source. Test the control before going live so you know which scene state viewers will see.

Check the scene before going live
- Confirm the correct camera is selected and its permission is granted.
- Check framing, focus, exposure, and whether the pet cam is visible at the intended time.
- Verify audio routing. A second device or webcam may offer audio that you do not want in the broadcast.
- Watch the scene preview and make sure the pet camera does not cover other sources or reveal private information.
- For a network feed, confirm that the computer can reach it and that any credentials remain off-screen.
OBS scene streaming is different from YouTube’s direct webcam flow
OBS is useful when you want to compose the pet camera with other sources in one scene. OBS Virtual Camera has a different purpose: it shares an OBS output as a webcam input for another application that accepts a camera. It does not replace the streaming platform’s broadcast setup. YouTube’s direct webcam route is a platform workflow: enable live streaming for the account, open the webcam option, enter stream details, choose privacy, select the camera and microphone, and start the broadcast. Check YouTube’s current webcam instructions for eligibility and interface details, which can change. This route is appropriate for a straightforward webcam broadcast; use OBS when you need a composed scene with multiple sources.

The camera does not appear in OBS
Check that it is connected, selected in the Video Capture Source properties, and permitted to access the camera. If another application is using the device, close that application and check the OBS preview again.

The second device will not join
Confirm the joining link is open in a browser on the second device, that it has internet access, and that browser camera permission is allowed. Recheck the selected camera and join prompt.
The pet is out of frame or the image is blocked
Adjust the physical camera position first, then resize or crop the source in the scene. Check that the source is not hidden and that another scene element is not covering it.

The RTSP feed will not connect
Confirm that the camera explicitly supports RTSP, both devices are reachable on the network, and the address matches the camera maker’s instructions. An app-only camera should not be assumed to expose RTSP.

The camera works, but the YouTube broadcast is not ready
For YouTube’s webcam workflow, verify live-stream eligibility and the selected camera, microphone, and privacy setting in YouTube’s current interface. A camera source appearing in OBS is not the same as completing YouTube’s broadcast setup.
