The video, logo and ticker can run together in one scene; test the finished composition and YouTube stream before relying on it.
What you need before you build the scene
- A local video file to use as the background.
- A logo image file. PNG is a practical choice when the logo needs a transparent background; image transparency depends on the file format.
- The ticker wording, either ready to enter in OBS or saved in a text file.
- An OBS scene and, when you are ready to broadcast, a YouTube stream key configured in OBS.
OBS offers Media Source formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM. Its Image source supports common formats including PNG, JPEG, BMP, TGA and GIF. See the OBS Media Sources and Image Sources documentation for details.

Build the scene in OBS
1. Add and loop the video
- In the OBS Sources dock, select + and add a Media Source.
- Name the source if useful, choose the local video file, and enable Loop in its properties. Loop is off by default; with it enabled, the video starts again after it reaches the end.
- Confirm the source is visible in the preview. Resize or reposition it if it does not fill the canvas as intended.
For source options and supported formats, consult OBS’s Media Sources guide.
2. Put the logo above the video
- In Sources, select + and add an Image source.
- Choose the logo file. Drag it in the preview to position it, and use the handles to resize it.
- Make sure the Image source appears above the Media Source in the Sources list. Sources higher in that list render on top of those below them.
Keep the logo clear of important video content and check its appearance at the size it will occupy on stream. OBS explains source layering in its Sources Guide.

3. Add ticker wording
- Select + in Sources, then choose the Text source available for your operating system.
- Enter the ticker wording, or set the source to read from a text file if you want to maintain the wording there.
- Position the text in the preview where the ticker should appear. Leave enough room for the text to travel without covering key parts of the video.
OBS documents Text (GDI+) for Windows and Text (Freetype 2) for macOS and Linux. The exact controls depend on the source variant; see the Text Sources guide.
4. Make the ticker scroll
- Right-click the ticker Text source and open Filters.
- Add the Scroll filter.
- Adjust Horizontal Speed to set direction and movement: negative values move left; positive values move right.
- Enable Loop if the text should repeat after it scrolls out of the source bounds.
- If you need to confine the ticker to a lane, use the filter’s Limit Width or Limit Height settings as appropriate, then inspect the result in preview.
The Scroll filter moves a source image in a chosen direction. Its settings and behavior are described in OBS’s Scroll Filter documentation.

Check the composition and choose a ticker method
In the preview, verify that the background, logo and ticker are all visible, correctly layered and positioned. Watch the ticker long enough to see whether its speed is readable and whether it repeats as intended. A fixed text source with Scroll is a straightforward option for wording that does not need frequent changes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Approach | Good fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Text source plus Scroll filter | Simple ticker wording and a native OBS setup. | Use the text source and filter controls to configure appearance and motion. |
| Browser Source | A custom web-based layout or more flexible animated overlay. | Requires a web page or local HTML and can use significant system resources. |
OBS’s Browser Source guide covers loading a local HTML file or web page; its default custom CSS makes the background transparent. OBS also cautions that Browser Sources can be resource intensive, so start with Text and Image sources for a basic ticker and logo.

Configure and test the YouTube stream
Before a real broadcast, make a representative test with both audio and movement, then monitor YouTube’s stream health. YouTube’s guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 and AV1 video options, CBR, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended keyframe frequency of two seconds (not more than four seconds). Its bitrate recommendations vary by codec, resolution and frame rate, so choose from YouTube’s current table for your intended settings and confirm that your available upload bandwidth can support them. These recommendations may change; check YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions before configuring the stream.
For YouTube delivery setup, use your stream key in OBS’s streaming configuration and keep it private. Do not assume that a scene working in preview means the broadcast is healthy: verify the live output and stream-health indicators during the test.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The video stops at the end. Reopen the Media Source properties and check that Loop is enabled.
- The logo or ticker is hidden behind the video. Move its source higher in the Sources list; higher sources render above lower ones.
- The ticker moves the wrong way. Adjust Horizontal Speed: use a negative value for leftward movement and a positive value for rightward movement.
- The ticker disappears and does not return. Enable Loop in the Scroll filter if it should repeat after leaving the source bounds.
- The ticker overlaps important content. Reposition or resize the source in preview, or use Limit Width/Height in the Scroll filter to constrain its lane.
- The stream looks unstable or OBS struggles while encoding. Check YouTube’s stream-health feedback and ensure the selected codec, resolution, frame rate and bitrate suit your upload bandwidth. OBS also provides encoding performance troubleshooting.
- A Browser Source slows the scene. For a basic static logo and ticker, replace it with native Image and Text sources where possible; OBS warns browser sources can be resource intensive.
