Add delay=2 to a CaptureKit /v1/capture request to wait two seconds before capture. The delay parameter is measured in seconds, accepts values from 0 to 10, and defaults to 0. For pages with a recognizable ready state, CaptureKit also documents condition-based waits that can be used instead of—or alongside—a fixed delay.
Set a fixed delay in the CaptureKit request
Pass delay as a query parameter on the capture endpoint. Authenticate with your API key in the x-api-key header:

CaptureKit documents delay as “Delay in seconds before capturing the screenshot.” The permitted range is 0–10 seconds; the default is 0. See the CaptureKit screenshot endpoint reference.

Choose between a delay and a page-ready condition
A fixed delay is a simple option when you know a page needs extra time after navigation. It always waits the chosen duration, even if the content is ready sooner. CaptureKit also documents navigation conditions and a selector-based wait; these respond to a page event or element rather than elapsed time. The documentation lists the options but does not establish comparative reliability measurements.

These controls can be alternatives or complements. For example, CaptureKit’s monitoring article shows wait_until=networkidle2 with delay=2. When JavaScript content is still missing
- If the page has a known readiness element, try
wait_for_selectorfor that element rather than relying only on a longer fixed wait. - If the content depends on navigation settling, try an appropriate
wait_untilvalue; for example, CaptureKit demonstratesnetworkidle2with a two-second delay. - If you use a fixed delay, keep it within the documented 0–10-second range and increase it only when the page needs more time. A delay does not itself identify whether the required content has loaded.
