Add the delay parameter to your ScreenshotAPI.net request and set it to the number of milliseconds to wait before capture. For example, delay=2000 requests a two-second wait; the documented default is 0. Use a fixed delay when you know content needs extra render time. If capture should wait for a particular element or page event, use a condition-based wait instead.
Add the delay parameter
ScreenshotAPI.net documents delay as a millisecond value. Add it to the screenshot request’s query string alongside the token and target URL:

https://shot.screenshotapi.net/v3/screenshot?token=TOKEN&url=ENCODED_URL&delay=2000
This illustrative request asks the service to wait two seconds before taking the screenshot. Replace TOKEN with your token and ENCODED_URL with the URL-encoded page address. Encoding matters when the target URL contains query strings, ampersands, fragments, or other reserved characters.
Use delay=0 for no additional fixed wait. ScreenshotAPI.net’s documentation gives 500, 2000, and 0 as examples; they are examples, not universal recommendations. Choose the shortest delay that allows the specific page content you need to appear.

Choose a wait strategy that matches the page
| Control | What it waits for | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
delay |
A fixed elapsed time, in milliseconds, before capture. | The page needs a known extra interval for an animation, chart, or delayed rendering. |
wait_for_selector |
A specified DOM element to appear. | A particular element is a reliable sign that the content is ready. Choose a selector that actually matches the target page. |
wait_for_event |
A browser page-load event. The documented choices include load, domcontentloaded, and networkidle; the documented default is load. |
You need to define readiness by a browser event. ScreenshotAPI.net describes networkidle as waiting until there have been no active network requests for at least 500 ms. |
A fixed delay is simple, but it waits for the clock rather than checking whether a specific piece of content is ready. A selector wait can avoid guessing a duration when an element marks readiness. For content arriving through asynchronous requests, consider networkidle. The feature documentation says wait controls can be combined; for example, it illustrates wait_for_event=networkidle&wait_for_selector=.hero. Combine controls only when the page needs them.
Handle lazy-loaded content separately
A longer delay does not, by itself, scroll down the page to trigger off-screen content. For that case, ScreenshotAPI.net documents lazy_load=true, which scrolls through the page to trigger deferred content, and scroll_delay, which sets the pause between scroll steps in milliseconds. The documented default for scroll_delay is 500 ms.

The documentation demonstrates using lazy_load=true with delay=10000. Treat that as an example configuration, not a standard value for all pages. On a long page, many scroll steps with a high scroll_delay can extend the capture enough to hit the documented default request timeout of 100000 ms. If a capture times out, reduce unnecessary scroll waiting or limit the page work before increasing the timeout.

- Start from the page’s actual readiness signal. If a specific chart, image, or component must appear, identify an element that signals it is ready. Prefer a selector wait when that signal is available.
- Use a small fixed delay when readiness is time-based or hard to detect. Begin with a short interval and increase it only if the required content is missing. Static pages may need no added delay.
- Use scrolling for content that loads on demand. Enable
lazy_load=truewhen off-screen content must be triggered, then account for the extra time from the scroll steps. - Recheck the exact page and output. Dynamic sites can render differently across visits. Adjust the selector or wait strategy to match the page rather than assuming one duration fits every URL.
Troubleshoot missing content or slow captures
- The screenshot is taken before an animation or chart finishes: add a modest
delay, or wait for the chart’s selector if it can serve as a readiness signal. - Asynchronous data is missing: consider
wait_for_event=networkidle. If a known element indicates that the data is ready, usewait_for_selectoras well where appropriate. - Content below the fold is absent: use
lazy_load=true. Increasingdelayalone is not the documented scrolling mechanism. - The request takes too long or times out: check whether lazy scrolling and a large
scroll_delayare extending the job. The docs list a 100000 ms default timeout and warn that long scroll delays can exceed it. - The URL or query does not behave as expected: URL-encode the target URL, especially when it contains its own query parameters. Keep the ScreenshotAPI.net request parameters separate from the encoded target address.
