To add a camera widget, check whether your camera app offers one in the iPhone widget gallery, then add it from Home Screen edit mode. What the widget does depends on the app: it may provide a glanceable view or open Live View with a tap. Apple’s reviewed guidance explains viewing camera video in the Home app, but does not establish that its built-in Home Screen widget displays a continuously streaming camera feed.

Tap Add Widget, position it on the page, then tap Done.
Apple documents this general widget procedure in its iPhone widget guide. If your camera app does not appear in the gallery, it may not offer a widget in that installation. Turning an app icon into a widget only changes it to a widget size the app already provides; it does not create camera-view functionality.

Apple Home cameras: view them in the Home app
For a camera already configured in Apple Home, open the Home app and go to the Cameras section. Apple says the Home tab can show video from up to four cameras. Its iPhone guide also describes HomeKit Secure Video features such as recording and notifications for recognized people or packages; those features depend on compatible equipment and setup. Remote home control uses a home hub, such as Apple TV 4K or HomePod speakers. See Apple’s guide to controlling your home and Apple’s Home app information.
Apple separately advertises a Home widget for the Lock Screen and Control Center access. Those are not the same as a documented Home Screen widget that continuously embeds a camera stream. The reviewed Apple material does not describe that built-in Home Screen camera-feed feature.

Ring cameras: check for the Live View widget
Ring says its Live View widgets provide access to Live View from a phone or tablet Home Screen, with a tile associated with a selected camera or doorbell. That describes a route into Live View, not an always-running feed rendered inside the widget. Ring’s support page could not be opened for further detail, so consult Ring’s widget instructions and confirm eligibility for your model and app version.
Home Widget for HomeKit: open a camera mosaic with a tap
The App Store listing for Home Widget for HomeKit describes opening a camera mosaic from a widget, zooming into a camera, and adding a Control Center control to open the mosaic or a selected camera. This can reduce the steps to camera viewing, but the listing does not establish that the widget itself continuously streams footage.

Can you see a camera live without opening the app?
It depends on what the app’s widget supports. Ring describes its widget as access to Live View, and Home Widget for HomeKit describes opening a mosaic or camera. For Apple Home, the reviewed guidance points to video in the Home app rather than a continuously streaming Home Screen widget. Check the widget’s behavior on your device before relying on it for a live view.
You do not need to buy a camera just to add a widget if you already have compatible hardware. Apple lists the Logitech Circle View Wired Doorbell as an example security accessory, but it is not required for the widget steps above; see Apple’s HomeKit accessories.
