How to Activate a Red Pocket Mobile SIM and Transfer Your Number

A practical guide to activating Red Pocket Mobile with a physical SIM or eSIM, transferring your existing number, checking carrier credentials, and fixing common activation problems.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To start Red Pocket Mobile service with your existing number, collect your current carrier’s account number and transfer PIN, remove any port-out lock, and keep the old line active. During Red Pocket activation, choose the option to transfer a number—before submitting the form—then enter the requested account details. Install the physical SIM or eSIM over Wi-Fi and test a call and text. Red Pocket says a line activated with a new number cannot later be changed to import your old number.

What you need before opening the activation page

Number transfers are submitted as part of activation, not as an afterthought. Red Pocket’s physical-SIM and eSIM instructions both say the transfer choice must be made during the activation flow. If you activate with a newly assigned number, Red Pocket says you cannot subsequently transfer your existing number into that already activated line. Read the official instructions for a physical SIM or eSIM before choosing an option.

  • The mobile number you want to move.
  • Your current carrier account number.
  • The transfer PIN, port-out PIN, or password used to authorize a move.
  • The exact name of the current carrier.

Red Pocket’s number-transfer guidance warns that the old line must remain active until the transfer finishes and that any port-out blocker must be disabled. Carrier procedures differ, so use the carrier’s account tools or customer support to retrieve current credentials rather than guessing them. Red Pocket’s carrier guide provides examples for Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Boost, Cricket, Visible, Mint, MetroPCS, Google Fi, TracFone, and others, but individual instructions can change.

Some carriers display a dedicated transfer PIN, while others call it an account PIN or port-out password. Ask specifically for the credential needed to move your number to another carrier, not merely the PIN used to unlock the carrier website. If an automated account tool gives you a temporary code, note its expiration and use it while it is valid. If your carrier cannot find the request, ask whether a number-lock or port-out protection feature is enabled.

Keep the old service running

Do not cancel the old plan before the move is complete. Cancellation can make the number unavailable for transfer or prevent the carrier from validating the account. Leave the old SIM or eSIM working until Red Pocket service accepts calls and texts on the transferred number. A port request is not a reason to remove the old line immediately; the old service is your fallback while the transfer is pending.

Check the phone and location

The device must be carrier-unlocked and compatible with the Red Pocket network and SIM type. Red Pocket states that activation can only be completed from the United States. If you bought a plan or SIM through a retailer, check the order’s own expiration and regional terms as well. Have the phone available because the physical-SIM flow may request its IMEI.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose physical SIM or eSIM

The port-in decision is the same for either SIM type, but the identifier and installation method differ. A physical card is useful when the handset has no eSIM capability or when you routinely move service between compatible devices. An eSIM avoids inserting a card, but it requires a supported handset and a Wi-Fi connection while the cellular profile downloads.

Item Physical SIM eSIM
Activation identifier Order confirmation code or ICCID printed on the SIM Confirmation code delivered by email
Number transfer Select transfer during activation Select transfer during activation
Installation Insert the SIM after submitting activation Accept the device prompt or scan the QR code generated after activation
Connection needed for setup Wi-Fi is recommended Wi-Fi is required for the download process
Activation notification Red Pocket says to allow up to 15 minutes for an activation text Follow the on-screen eSIM installation prompts
Compatibility Most phones use a physical SIM, subject to network and device compatibility Only eSIM-capable, compatible phones can use it

These distinctions come from Red Pocket’s physical-SIM, eSIM, and installation instructions. The SIM format does not determine whether your number can be transferred; accurate old-carrier credentials and the in-form transfer selection do.

Activate Red Pocket while transferring your number

1. Open the official activation form

Use Red Pocket’s activation page. Have the SIM, order email, and current-carrier credentials available before beginning. The form’s labels and sequence can change, so follow the fields shown on the live page. Do not start by requesting a new Red Pocket number if your objective is to keep the number you already have.

2. Enter the SIM identifier

For a physical SIM, enter the confirmation code supplied with the order or the ICCID printed on the SIM card. The ICCID is the long identifier associated with that card; copy it carefully instead of entering the phone number. For an eSIM, enter the confirmation code sent by email. Keep the email open, but do not scan an unrelated QR code from another order.

  • 5. WIDE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS: Sim card removal tool is suitable for all cell phones, ideal for removing sim card from iphone or ipad, removing or adjusting the watch band as well

3. Select the transfer option

Choose the option that says you are bringing a number from another carrier. Red Pocket’s wording includes “Bring your number to RedPocket.” Do not select a new number if preserving your current number is the goal. Red Pocket’s help center describes this as transferring a number during activation and says the choice cannot be added later to a line activated with a new number. If you are unsure, pause before submitting and contact Red Pocket rather than completing the wrong flow.

4. Complete the porting fields

Red Pocket’s activation form uses labels such as “Phone Number (To Transfer)” and “Account Number.” Enter:

  1. The number being moved, exactly as held by the old carrier.
  2. The old carrier’s account number.
  3. The transfer PIN or password.
  4. The previous carrier’s name.

Red Pocket’s physical-SIM flow can also request the phone’s IMEI. If the handset has two IMEIs, the form specifies IMEI 2 in the relevant situation. Use the IMEI for the device that will use the Red Pocket line; do not copy a random identifier from another phone. If the form asks for information you do not recognize, stop and verify it with Red Pocket support rather than substituting an account number or SIM serial number.

5. Review before submitting

Compare every digit with the old carrier’s account record. A typo in the number, account number, PIN, or carrier selection can cause a rejection even when the phone and SIM are compatible. Confirm that the old carrier’s port-out lock is off and that the old service has not been canceled. Check that the number shown in the confirmation screen is the one you intend to keep; a mistaken number can create a different transfer problem than a mistyped PIN.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

6. Submit activation from the United States

Red Pocket states that SIM activation can only be done from the U.S. Submit the request while connected to a reliable internet connection. Keep the old line active while Red Pocket processes the transfer; Red Pocket does not publish a universal completion time, so do not schedule cancellation based on a promised number of hours. Save the order confirmation and any case number in case support needs to review the request.

Install and test a physical Red Pocket SIM

  1. Connect the phone to Wi-Fi.
  2. Power the phone off if the manufacturer recommends doing so.
  3. Open the SIM tray with the supplied ejector tool or a straightened paper clip. A SIM card ejector tool is optional; it is not needed for eSIM.
  4. Place the Red Pocket SIM in the tray in the orientation shown by the tray or phone markings.
  5. Reinsert the tray and power the phone on.
  6. Allow up to 15 minutes for the activation notification that Red Pocket describes in its installation instructions.
  7. Place an outgoing call and send a text message. Have another person call and text you to confirm inbound service and caller-ID behavior.

If the phone still shows the old carrier, restart it once after the waiting period. Check that the SIM is seated correctly and that the device is unlocked. Verify that the card’s ICCID is the one submitted during activation. Do not remove the SIM repeatedly while the activation request is still being processed. If the activation text does not arrive after the stated waiting period, contact Red Pocket with the order information and device IMEI.

Install and test a Red Pocket eSIM

  1. Connect the phone to a stable Wi-Fi network before starting the download.
  2. Finish the Red Pocket activation and open the email confirmation.
  3. Accept the new eSIM prompt if the phone displays one. If it does not, use the QR code Red Pocket provides after activation.
  4. Follow the phone’s prompts to download and label the new cellular plan.
  5. Set the Red Pocket eSIM as the line for calls and mobile data when prompted, unless you intentionally use another line for one of those functions.
  6. Turn off the old line only after the transfer is complete and you have confirmed service on Red Pocket.
  7. Test an outgoing call, an outgoing text, an incoming call, and an incoming text.

Red Pocket’s general examples of eSIM-capable devices include iPhone 11 and later, Motorola Razr 2020 5G and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, and Google Pixel 3 and later. That list is illustrative rather than exhaustive, and compatibility can change by model, software version, and network configuration. Use Red Pocket’s current compatibility checker or support for a device-specific answer. A phone can support eSIM in general yet still require a particular carrier or software configuration, so check the exact model rather than relying only on the brand name.

iSYFIX SIM Card Tray Eject Pin Removal Tool, 10 Pack
  • What you get: 10 identical steel SIM ejector needles, one standard size that fits the eject hole of any phone or tablet with a physical SIM slot, so a spare is always within reach
  • Right for your device: Android and Samsung Galaxy phones, cellular iPads and tablets, and any iPhone that still uses a physical SIM, one needle works for all of them
  • How to use: push the needle straight into the small hole next to the SIM drawer until it pops open, then lift out the drawer, no force, twisting or technical skill needed
  • The difference vs paperclips: a rigid one piece steel needle holds its shape where bent wire flexes, so it presses the release cleanly without scratching or jamming the port
  • Ten spares, zero hunting: keep one at home, at the office, in the car, in your wallet and in every travel bag, and hand extras to family or coworkers who always lose theirs

Keep Wi-Fi connected until the profile finishes downloading. If the phone offers a choice of default lines, select Red Pocket for calls, messages, and data as appropriate. Leave the old line available until both incoming and outgoing tests succeed; deleting or disabling it too early can make it harder to tell whether the port is complete.

Activation window, location, and timing limitations

U.S.-only activation

Red Pocket’s help content says activation can only be completed from the United States. A phone may be capable of roaming internationally later, but that does not change the stated location requirement for initial activation. If you are traveling, wait until you are in the U.S. or ask Red Pocket whether your order has a different rule.

Prepaid plan expiration

Red Pocket’s physical-SIM help information says plans expire after 90 days. The page does not establish that every order, retailer purchase, or plan follows identical terms, so check the expiration shown with your specific purchase. Treat the 90-day statement as an activation-window rule, not a guarantee that a port will complete within 90 days. Retailer packaging and order emails may contain terms that differ from a general help page.

No universal port-completion promise

The carrier’s instructions explain what information is required but do not establish an actual transfer duration or success rate. Keep both services available until the old line stops working and Red Pocket passes your call and text tests. Avoid making travel, work, or account-cancellation plans around an assumed completion time.

Fix the most common failures

You activated a new number by mistake

Red Pocket says a number transfer cannot be added later to a line that was activated with a new number. Contact Red Pocket support promptly and ask what options apply to the order; do not assume the existing line can simply be edited into a port-in. Have the activation confirmation and original order details ready.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The transfer was rejected

  • Recheck the number against the old carrier’s account.
  • Obtain a fresh account number and transfer PIN from the old carrier instead of reusing an old credential.
  • Confirm that the old carrier’s port-out blocker or number-lock feature is disabled.
  • Verify that the old line is still active.
  • Check that you selected the correct previous carrier in the form.
  • Review whether the old carrier requires a special account number for prepaid service or a separate port-out PIN.

Carrier-specific credential rules can change. Red Pocket’s porting guide recommends using the current carrier’s support channel when its procedure differs from the examples. Do not repeatedly submit guessed credentials; confirm the account record first.

The physical SIM does not activate

Confirm the ICCID or confirmation code, reseat the SIM, verify that the phone is unlocked, and wait the full 15-minute period Red Pocket specifies for the activation notification. Then restart and repeat the call-and-text test. If there is still no service, contact Red Pocket with the order, device IMEI, and exact error message. If the phone has more than one SIM slot, make sure you tested the slot associated with the submitted device information.

The eSIM download fails

Reconnect to Wi-Fi and check that the device supports Red Pocket eSIM service. If a QR scan fails, use the manual setup path offered by the phone or Red Pocket’s instructions. Confirm that you are using the confirmation email for the correct order. Do not delete a partially installed eSIM until support tells you to, because removing it can require a new installation credential.

Calls work but texts or data do not

Restart the phone, verify that the Red Pocket line is selected for mobile data and messaging, and check that the old line is not still designated as the default. Test both incoming and outgoing messages. Persistent partial service points to a provisioning, compatibility, or account issue that Red Pocket support must investigate. Record which services work and which fail; that distinction helps support identify whether the problem is the port, the device profile, or line selection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The phone says it is locked or incompatible

Activation cannot overcome a carrier lock or an unsupported device configuration. Ask the former carrier to confirm unlock status, then use Red Pocket’s compatibility checker for the exact model and network version. General eSIM model examples are not a guarantee for every regional variant. A physical SIM may still require network compatibility even when the tray accepts the card.

Questions to ask your old carrier

Before leaving the old carrier’s support session, confirm five things: the exact account number, the current transfer PIN, the number-lock or port-out-block status, whether the line remains active, and whether any account name or address detail must match the transfer record. Ask how long a newly issued PIN remains valid. Write the answers down exactly, including leading zeroes, capitalization, and punctuation where applicable. This preparation is faster than troubleshooting a rejected request after the activation form has been submitted.

Final activation checklist

  • Current number, account number, transfer PIN, and carrier name are confirmed.
  • Port-out lock is disabled.
  • Old service remains active.
  • Phone is unlocked and compatible.
  • Physical SIM ICCID or eSIM email confirmation code is ready.
  • Transfer option is selected during activation.
  • Activation is submitted from the United States.
  • Wi-Fi is available for setup.
  • Physical-SIM users allow up to 15 minutes for the notification.
  • Outgoing and incoming calls and texts are tested before canceling the old service.
  • The activation confirmation and support details are saved.

Which setup should you use?

Choose a physical SIM if the phone lacks eSIM support, you want to move the card between compatible devices, or your retailer supplied a conventional SIM. Choose eSIM if the phone supports it and you want installation without waiting for a card shipment or opening a SIM tray. Neither option changes the porting requirement: the number transfer must be selected and submitted during activation, with accurate credentials from the current carrier.

Recheck the number, account number, transfer PIN, carrier selection, port-out lock, and line status. Get current credentials from the old carrier rather than guessing, then contact Red Pocket if the details are correct.

The Bottom Line

To keep your number, prepare the old carrier’s account number and transfer PIN, disable its port-out lock, and leave the old line active. During Red Pocket activation, choose number transfer—not a new number—then enter the correct details, install the physical SIM or eSIM over Wi-Fi, and verify incoming and outgoing calls and texts before canceling the old service.
