Where AppData is and why its path may differ
The usual AppData parent path is C:Users<username>AppData, where <username> means the name of the Windows profile folder. Microsoft gives the common Roaming and Local paths as C:UsersusernameAppDataRoaming and C:UsersusernameAppDataLocal. The actual path can differ if Windows was installed with different settings or the profile folder is redirected, so the environment-variable shortcuts are often more reliable than typing a presumed full path. See Microsoft Q&A: What is the path of AppData folder in Windows 10?.
What Local, LocalLow, and Roaming mean
| Folder | Shortcut or usual path | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Roaming | %APPDATA%%USERPROFILE%AppDataRoaming |
Some settings and data may follow a user to another computer when they sign in on the same domain. This is conditional; it does not mean Roaming data synchronizes for every Windows account or setup. |
| Local | %LOCALAPPDATA%%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocal |
Data intended to remain on the local machine. |
| LocalLow | %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLow |
A location used by some low-integrity applications. |
These descriptions are summarized in Microsoft Q&A’s explanation of the AppData path and subfolders and the related Microsoft Q&A discussion.

However, to play current-gen games (PS5 / Xbox Series X|S), you must copy them to the console's internal SSD first. The external drive is great for keeping your library on hand, but it can't run the new games.
Do not confuse this folder with developer app-data locations
Windows developer documentation also describes app-local, app-roaming, and temporary data locations accessed through APIs such as ApplicationData. That guidance is for developers working with app-specific storage; it is not a different consumer shortcut for opening the ordinary AppData folder in your profile. See Microsoft Learn: ApplicationData class.
Use care when changing or deleting AppData contents
Finding AppData does not mean you should move the folder or change its configuration. If troubleshooting calls for deleting data, work only with the specific app folder and follow that app’s instructions rather than deleting unrelated contents.
