To access onion sites on Android, install the official Tor Browser, connect to Tor, then enter the exact .onion address you want to visit. Tor provides a way to reach these services; it does not make every site trustworthy or guarantee that your identity cannot be discovered.
What you need to access the dark web on Android
For this how-to, “dark web” means onion services: websites reachable through the Tor network. The recommended Android app is Tor Browser, rather than a random app marketed as a “dark web browser.” Tor Browser routes its own traffic through Tor. Tor Project warns against trying to route other browsers through Tor, because they may leak identifying information or otherwise undermine privacy. See Tor Browser’s privacy protections and limitations.

Your Android device must run Android 5.0 or newer. Tor Browser is free and open source. If you are unsure which app package matches your device, Tor Project recommends choosing an app store rather than manually selecting a package.

Install the official Tor Browser app
Tor Project describes its official download website as the safest and simplest download route. If that site is blocked, the project also lists official mirrors and GetTor. On Android, the available routes include Google Play, the Guardian Project’s official F-Droid repository, and Tor Project download routes. Choose an official source so you can avoid unofficial apps posing as Tor Browser or charging for it.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
- Choose a download source. Start at Tor Project’s download guidance and use one of its official routes, or install through Google Play or the Guardian Project’s official F-Droid repository.
- Install the app. Follow the selected store’s normal installation steps. If you install an APK, get it from an official source and follow Tor Project’s signature verification guidance. A digital signature helps confirm that a package came from its developers and was not modified.
- Open Tor Browser and connect. Start the browser and use its connection prompt to connect to Tor.
Open an onion service
Once connected, enter the onion service’s exact address in Tor Browser’s address bar. Onion services are reached through Tor, not by entering a general search phrase into an ordinary browser. A current onion address is 56 letters and numbers followed by .onion. A single typo can stop the address from working. Tor Project explains how onion services work in Tor Browser.
Use an address obtained from a source you trust. Being reachable through Tor does not verify a site’s identity, safety, or honesty; check that the address is correct before entering information or downloading files.

Choose a security level
Tor Browser for Android offers Standard, Safer, and Safest security levels. Higher levels disable or restrict some web features, which can improve protection against certain web threats but may cause sites to display incorrectly or stop working. Choose based on your privacy needs and whether you can accept reduced site functionality. Tor Project describes the settings and their trade-offs in its security-level guidance.
Keep Tor Browser updated
Install updates through the app store where you obtained Tor Browser or through official Tor Project download routes. Tor Project warns that outdated versions can contain serious vulnerabilities that put users at risk of deanonymization. Its update instructions cover the available routes.

What Tor Browser on Android does not guarantee
- It does not make every site safe. Tor is a connection and privacy tool, not a trust rating for the onion service you visit.
- It does not make your behavior irrelevant. Avoid signing into personal accounts or sharing identifying details if doing so conflicts with your privacy goals. Do not use another browser routed through Tor as a substitute for Tor Browser; Tor Project warns that other browsers can leak identifying information.
- Android does not include every desktop feature. Tor Project currently lists circuit display, New Identity, client authorization for onion services, and Onion-Location support as unavailable in Tor Browser for Android. See its known-issues page.
- Legal rules depend on where you are and what you access. The rules are not established here for every jurisdiction, so check the laws that apply to you.
