The HP1800 is a PWM phase-doubler: it turns one tri-state PWM input into four complementary outputs for two phases, interleaved by 180 degrees. Hynetek presents it as a way to reuse a conventional multiphase controller in a single-stage 48 V-to-ultra-low-voltage power topology. It is not a complete converter, a multiphase controller, or a guarantee of the efficiency figures Hynetek reports.
What the HP1800 does in a 48 V power system
A conventional processor power path can step a 48 V bus down to 12 V with an intermediate bus converter (IBC), then use a multiphase buck point-of-load converter to produce the processor’s core voltage. Hynetek describes an alternative: a single-stage half-bridge current-doubler rectifier (HBCD) that converts 48 V directly to an ultra-low output.

In that arrangement, the HP1800 handles PWM signal logic. It expands a controller’s single tri-state PWM signal into four complementary signals that form two phases interleaved at 180 degrees. Hynetek says this can allow a controller used in the conventional second-stage design to drive the new topology without adding PWM channels.
The distinction matters: the HP1800 does not perform the voltage conversion itself. The external multiphase controller, gate drivers, switching devices, magnetic components, and a complete circuit implementation are still required. Hynetek’s example identifies the HP3010, a 120 V/3 A half-bridge driver, and the HP3000, a 30 V/5 A dual-channel low-side driver, as devices driven by the HP1800 outputs; the controller remains external.

What voltage range and application does Hynetek describe?
Hynetek describes ultra-low outputs from 0.6 V to 3.3 V and illustrates conversion from 48 V to 1.0 V. These are application descriptions, not a guarantee that every output voltage, load current, or system design is supported by the HP1800 alone. Output capability depends on the surrounding controller and power-stage design.
HP1800 specifications and signal behavior
| Item | Hynetek-reported detail |
|---|---|
| Package | DFN2x2-8L, also described as DFN-8L |
| Maximum VCC | 7 V |
| Switching frequency range | 200 kHz–2 MHz |
| PWM input | Tri-state; a high-impedance input state is used to stop PWM outputs |
| Initial dead time | Configurable independently for the complementary pairs using pull-down resistors at PWM1 and PWM4 |
| Operating temperature | −40°C to 125°C |
Hynetek also describes input-transition and interference handling intended to reduce abnormal complementary timing and the risk of shoot-through. That is a stated protection feature, not a guarantee against every fault and not a substitute for validating dead time, switching behavior, thermal performance, and fault handling in the actual design.

What efficiency and size benefits are claimed?
In its 2026 comparison, Hynetek reports 90–92% peak operating-point efficiency for single-stage conversion, approximately 86% typical end-to-end efficiency for the conventional two-stage path after distribution and parasitic losses, up to roughly 75% less active conversion area, and around 40% fewer components. These are company-published architecture comparison figures, not guaranteed HP1800 performance or independently verified results for a particular design.

Those figures come from a separate company article and should not be combined with the 2026 estimates into a more precise number.

The reviewed Hynetek material does not provide a reproducible test setup, measured curves, specified load conditions, or independent verification adequate to apply those figures to a specific implementation. EE Times published the 2026 article as Hynetek partner content, so it is not independent confirmation. A single-stage path may remove an intermediate conversion stage, but the right choice depends on system-level performance rather than stage count alone. Compare the two architectures under matched operating conditions and load profiles, and resolve these design questions:

- Converts AC voltage to 48V DC with more sufficient power. LED Indicator.
- Output Current 0-5 Amp, Power 240 Watt Max. Efficiency more than 80%.
- Smart device surge protection for Shortage Protection, Overload Protection, Over Voltage Protection.
- Widely used in Industrial automation, LED module, communications, CNC Stepper, etc
- Perfectly designed and well constructed, more stability and reliability.
- Efficiency: What is measured 48 V-to-load efficiency across the expected load range, rather than at one peak operating point?
- Output and current: Does the complete power stage meet the target core voltage, load current, and transient-response requirements?
- Distribution: How do distribution losses and parasitics affect the existing two-stage path and the proposed single-stage layout?
- Area and components: What are the actual magnetic-component count, total board area, and active conversion area in the intended implementation?
- Control and switching: Can the existing controller provide the necessary signal behavior, and are switching frequency, thermal limits, and EMI manageable?
- Protection and validation: What faults must the design handle, and are there validated reference designs and test data for the intended operating conditions?
The published comparison material does not provide matched, independent measurements that settle these questions. The HP1800’s stated role is narrower and clearer: it generates the two-phase complementary PWM signals needed by the described HBCD topology, potentially avoiding a requirement for additional controller PWM channels.
