If a website stops working while a content blocker is enabled on your iPhone, the blocker may be preventing Safari from loading or displaying something the page needs. Compare the same page with the relevant blocker temporarily off; if the feature works again, restore protection and use the narrowest site exception the blocker offers. The exact controls depend on the iOS version and the blocker app.
What a content blocker changes in Safari
Safari content blockers use rules to decide what page content to block or hide. Apple’s content-blocker documentation describes rules that can prevent resource loads, hide page elements, or strip eligible cookies. The result can be a cleaner or more private browsing experience, but a rule may also affect a site if it matches something that site relies on.

WebKit’s introduction to content blockers, published June 12, 2015, explains the basic rule model: a trigger can match a resource URL, resource type, first- or third-party relationship, or the domain of the page, and an action can block a load, strip eligible cookies, or hide matching elements with CSS. If a page depends on a blocked script, stylesheet, image, or request, a feature may fail or content may appear incomplete. That is a consequence of how the rules work, not a measured estimate of how often sites break.
Safari web extensions are a distinct mechanism. Apple’s current web-extension network request documentation describes declarative rules and supported actions and resource types, with some capabilities subject to Safari-version and permission requirements. Do not assume every blocker app supports the same actions or site controls; check the app’s own current instructions.

How to tell whether the blocker is causing the problem
Start with the specific thing that is failing—such as sign-in, checkout, video playback, page layout, or a missing image—so you can compare the same behavior each time.
- Temporarily disable the relevant blocker or change its control for the affected site. The exact path varies by iOS version and app; there is no single universal iPhone menu sequence established for all blockers.
- Reload the affected page and try the failing action again. If it works with blocking changed, the blocker is a plausible cause. If it still fails, the cause may be elsewhere.
- Restore blocking and narrow the exception if the app permits it. Prefer a site-level allow or exception for the affected site over leaving protection off everywhere.
- Consult the blocker’s current instructions if you cannot find the control. App interfaces and supported exceptions differ.
This reversible comparison is a troubleshooting method based on how blocker rules work, not a universal Apple-prescribed iPhone procedure.

Choose between a site exception and turning blocking off
If the comparison points to the blocker, the practical choice is between keeping it enabled with a targeted exception and leaving it disabled for that site. Which is appropriate depends on whether the page works and what controls the app provides.

Apple’s Support article “Hide distracting items on web pages in Safari” explains how to show hidden items and separately describes per-website Content Blockers controls on Mac. Those Mac directions should not be treated as iPhone steps. Apple’s Safari extensions page says extensions are distributed through the App Store and reviewed for reliability; that does not establish the effectiveness, compatibility record, or price of any particular blocker.

What is—and is not—known about breakage
Apple and WebKit’s cited technical material explains how rules can affect page resources and elements, but it does not quantify how frequently iPhone websites fail because of content blockers. It also does not rank named blocker apps or establish which one is most compatible. Treat a blocker as one possible cause to test, rather than assuming it is responsible whenever a page fails.
