CCS fast chargers require a compatible CCS1 DC adapter; J1772 Level 2 chargers require a separate AC adapter. Connector fit alone does not guarantee a station is available or suitable, so check Rivian’s current app and route information before relying on a stop.
What R2’s NACS port means
Rivian says R2, like all model-year 2026 and newer Rivian vehicles, comes with a NACS port. That is the vehicle-side connector, and it lets R2 plug into compatible NACS charging equipment without a connector adapter. It does not mean every charger using NACS is accessible: station compatibility, network access, and live availability still matter.

|---|---|---|---|
| Compatible Tesla Supercharger (DC fast charging) | Native NACS port | No connector adapter for the NACS connection | The individual station must be compatible and available to R2. |
| Rivian Adventure Network site with NACS | Native NACS port | No connector adapter for the NACS connection | Confirm the site has NACS connectors and is operating. |
| CCS DC fast charger | NACS vehicle port to CCS charger | Yes: compatible CCS1 DC adapter | Verify the current Rivian-approved adapter for R2 before buying. |
| J1772 Level 2 AC charger | NACS vehicle port to J1772 charger | Yes: J1772 AC adapter | Use an AC adapter, not a DC fast-charging adapter. |
Rivian’s charging FAQ identifies the CCS1 DC adapter and J1772 AC adapter for 2026-and-newer NACS-port vehicles. They serve different charging types and are not interchangeable.

Don’t confuse the R2 adapter with the older Rivian NACS adapter
The direction of conversion matters. R2 has a NACS vehicle port and needs a CCS1 DC adapter when the charger has a CCS plug. Rivian’s listed NACS DC adapter does the reverse: it lets older CCS-port R1T and R1S vehicles connect to NACS DC chargers. Rivian lists that adapter for 2022–2025 R1 vehicles, not as the R2-to-CCS solution.
Before purchasing any adapter, match the vehicle connector, charger connector, and AC or DC charging type, then confirm the current Rivian compatibility listing. Rivian’s NACS DC adapter guide discusses the older adapter and its Supercharger use; it does not establish approval details for a separate CCS1 adapter intended for R2.

What charging speed and network figures do—and don’t—tell you
In its September 23, 2026 article, Rivian says that under optimal conditions a high-powered station can add up to 150 miles of range in about 15 minutes, and that a 10% to 80% charge can take under 30 minutes. These are Rivian-published claims, not independent test results or a guarantee for every R2 session; actual charging depends on conditions and the vehicle and station.

How to plan a charging stop
- Use Rivian’s app or vehicle navigation to find a station on your route and check its current connector and availability details.
- Match the station plug to the R2’s NACS port. For CCS DC fast charging, confirm you have a compatible CCS1 DC adapter; for J1772 Level 2 AC charging, use the separate J1772 AC adapter.
- Check route convenience and station status before depending on a stop. A compatible connector does not by itself confirm access or live availability.
- If buying an adapter, confirm the current Rivian-approved model for R2 and its compatibility listing. The reviewed Rivian information identifies the CCS1 adapter category but does not name a specific R2-compatible model.
