Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteYes—Linux PCs can run PlayStation 3 games through RPCS3, an open-source emulator, but installing it does not guarantee that a particular game will work well. RPCS3 recreates the PS3’s hardware and software interfaces so games can run on a different computer; results depend on the game’s specific requirements, RPCS3’s support for them, and the host PC’s CPU, graphics support, drivers, firmware, and game version.
What PS3 emulation does
A PS3 game expects the console’s processor, graphics system, operating environment, and supporting services. RPCS3 reproduces enough of those interfaces for the game to run on a Linux computer, translating game instructions and requests into work the host can perform. That process is demanding: the emulator must reproduce console-specific behavior while coordinating with the host CPU and graphics drivers.

This is a high-level explanation, not a claim that every instruction is translated in one simple way or that all games stress the same component. The RPCS3 project describes accurate hardware and firmware emulation as a condition for expanding game support. Its FAQ puts the point plainly: “More games will be supported when the hardware/firmware emulation is accurate enough to run them.” RPCS3 FAQ

Games can depend on different PS3 behaviors. If RPCS3 does not yet reproduce a behavior a particular game needs accurately enough, the game may fail to start, stop at a later point, or run with problems. A computer that can run one game successfully therefore cannot be assumed to run every PS3 game.

There is a second source of variation: the compatibility list is organized by Game ID and media, not only by the title printed on a box. A disc release and a digital release of the same commercial game can have separate entries. Check the exact entry for your release, including its region or revision where applicable, rather than relying on a broad title-name match. RPCS3 Game Compatibility wiki
How to read RPCS3 compatibility labels
The project groups tested entries into categories including Playable, Ingame, Intro, Loadable, and Nothing. These are useful signals about reported compatibility, but they are not a guarantee that the same game will behave identically on every Linux setup or RPCS3 build. In particular, an Ingame report can indicate that a game boots without establishing that it can be completed. An unlisted Game ID is not evidence of a positive result.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
The project’s June 2026 statistics row reported the following counts. They describe tracked entries, not necessarily distinct retail titles, and are a dated snapshot rather than a live total or a promise for an individual PC.
| Status | Tracked entries, June 2026 |
|---|---|
| Playable | 2,673 |
| Ingame | 824 |
| Intro | 61 |
| Loadable | 1 |
| Nothing | 0 |
| Total tracked entries | 3,559 |
From May 2024 onward, the project says its statistics exclude entries that are not PS3 games. For the current status of a specific game, search the compatibility wiki by its Game ID and confirm you are viewing the right media entry.

What a Linux PC needs
RPCS3 supports Linux, but compatibility and performance depend on several parts of the setup working together:
- CPU: The RPCS3 FAQ lists an x64 CPU as part of its minimum baseline.
- Graphics: That FAQ lists an OpenGL 4.3-capable graphics card as a minimum and recommends a modern Vulkan-compatible card. It warns that some integrated Intel GPUs may not work correctly.
- Drivers and operating environment: The host’s graphics support and drivers affect whether the emulator can use the required graphics features.
- Firmware and game data: The emulator needs the relevant PS3 firmware setup and game files; consult the project’s current setup guide for the procedure.
- Emulator support: Even suitable host hardware cannot compensate for a game behavior RPCS3 does not yet emulate accurately enough.
The FAQ was last edited April 29, 2020, and explicitly says requirements were not fully known and could change during development. Treat its CPU and graphics statements as an older project baseline, not current buying advice or a guarantee of performance. Check RPCS3’s current documentation before choosing hardware. RPCS3 FAQ

How to get started without guessing
- Check your exact game entry. Find the Game ID and media entry in the RPCS3 compatibility list. A matching title name alone may not identify the same release.
- Compare your PC with current requirements. Use the project’s current setup documentation; the older FAQ baseline should not be used by itself to make a hardware purchase.
- Follow the official Quickstart Guide. RPCS3 directs new users there for the full installation and setup process. Its FAQ search result describes installing official PS3 firmware through File → Install Firmware, but consult the current guide for the complete, up-to-date steps.
- Test the game on your own setup. A compatibility report is tied to an entry and build, not a universal promise across CPUs, GPUs, drivers, Linux distributions, and emulator versions.
Is a controller required?
No. A gamepad is optional: RPCS3 supports keyboard input, and the FAQ says local multiplayer can use up to seven concurrent controllers, including mixed keyboard-and-gamepad input. If you prefer a pad, choose a PC-compatible controller for your setup; the cited information does not establish that any particular model works with every configuration. RPCS3 FAQ
