Samsung Internet’s Secret mode helps keep browsing history, cookies, and search records from being saved in the browser’s usual local history. It is not anonymous browsing: Samsung warns that websites, your internet service provider, apps, and the phone manufacturer may still see activity and data. Think of it as a way to reduce traces left in the browser on your phone—not a way to disappear online.
What Secret mode keeps off your phone’s usual browser history
Samsung says Secret mode does not save browsing history, cookies, or search records in the normal browser history. Samsung’s developer documentation also describes history, cookies, cache, saved login data, and autofill data as browsing data that is not left behind in the usual way.

Samsung says cookies and browsing history from Secret mode are erased from the phone once all Secret mode tabs are closed. That is the stated cleanup point; simply switching away from a tab is not the same as closing every Secret mode tab. Samsung Canada’s support guide describes this behavior.

Secret mode does not prevent websites or network-side services from observing visits. Samsung’s US support guide warns: “Your activity and data may still be visible to websites, your internet service provider, apps, and phone manufacturer.” Secret mode therefore addresses what the browser keeps locally, not what every other party can observe or collect. What can remain saved in Secret mode
Secret mode is not a promise that nothing can be saved. Samsung says users can save pages and bookmarks in a separate Secret mode area, where those items are visible only in Secret mode. Its developer documentation describes saved pages and bookmarks as kept separately with encryption and user authentication. This description concerns those saved items; it should not be read as a claim that all browsing activity is encrypted or hidden from the network. How Secret mode settings affect privacy
Samsung’s US guide lists controls for using a password, allowing screenshots, staying in Secret mode after closing the browser, configuring Smart anti-tracking, and resetting Secret mode. These settings can change access to Secret mode or how the browser behaves, but they do not make browsing anonymous to websites or network providers.

Samsung Knox documentation separately describes biometric enforcement for Secret mode on managed devices, requiring enterprise mobility management or unified endpoint management. That is an enterprise device control, not a general consumer setting. Samsung Knox documentation provides the managed-device qualification.

- Open Samsung Internet and tap the browser’s Tools menu.
- Open Settings, then Personal browsing data.
- Tap Secret mode settings to review the available controls.
- In the tab manager, look for the mask icon to identify Secret mode tabs.
The US guide says Secret mode ends when the Browser app is closed. It also notes that Secret mode is restricted for Samsung accounts registered as child accounts; age restrictions vary by country. Samsung’s US support instructions document the current menu path and availability caveat.

Use it when you want to reduce ordinary history and cookie traces left in Samsung Internet on the phone, especially on a device you share. Close all Secret mode tabs when finished to trigger Samsung’s stated cleanup of cookies and browsing history. Do not rely on it to hide a visit from a website, your ISP, apps, or the device manufacturer.
