1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPokémon card grading usually involves authentication, a condition assessment and sealing the card in a protective holder. A grade can make condition easier to compare, but it does not guarantee a higher sale price. Whether grading is worthwhile depends on the specific card, the grade it is likely to receive, recent completed sales and the costs of submitting and selling it.
What Pokémon card grading involves
Using PSA as a concrete example, the process has three stages. Other grading companies may use different standards, scales, labels and procedures.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Authentication and alteration review: PSA checks whether the card is genuine and looks for signs of doctoring, such as trimming or recoloring.
- Condition grading: If the card passes authentication, graders assess its condition on PSA’s 1–10 scale.
- Encapsulation: The card is sealed in a sonically sealed, tamper-evident holder. Its label displays the grade and certification number.
PSA’s standards identify trimming, restoration, recoloring, altered stock, cleaning and questionable authenticity among reasons a card may be returned without a numerical grade. Some no-grade outcomes may still incur a fee, so check the current submission rules before sending a card. PSA service levels and submission information and PSA grading standards explain the company’s process and criteria.

A grade is an assessment of a card’s condition under one company’s standard, not a universal measure shared identically by all graders. PSA uses a 1–10 scale, with 10 as its highest numerical grade. PSA describes a Gem Mint 10 as “a virtually perfect card,” citing sharp corners, sharp focus, full original gloss, no staining and approximate centering tolerances. The exact criteria are in PSA’s grading standards.

Grading is not wholly mechanical. PSA says observable features inform the assessment, but borderline decisions can involve eye appeal and judgment about what the market will accept. A number therefore offers a standardized signal, not a promise that every grader—or every buyer—will view a card identically.
How much does grading add to a Pokémon card’s value?
There is no supported universal percentage or multiplier. The effect varies with the exact card, its scarcity and demand, the assigned grade, and the timing and terms of the sale. A grade may help buyers compare condition and may affect confidence or the number of interested buyers, but it does not set the market price.

To estimate the difference for a particular card, compare recent completed sales—not asking prices—of the same card at the grade you are considering with sales of comparable ungraded copies. Raw-card condition varies, so account for that when comparing. Use the likely grade range rather than assuming the card will earn the top grade, and factor in grading, shipping, insurance, any value-based upcharge and selling fees. Sale dates matter too: the market may change while a submission is away.
Keep population counts separate from sale evidence: a grading-company population figure is not a realized price. PSA offers auction and price-research tools for graded cards, but its official materials do not establish a single premium that applies to Pokémon cards generally. A card-specific conclusion should be conditional on matching sales and costs, not a blanket claim that grading raises value.

- Recently we have received some complaints about some bad reviews because we only sent magnifying glasses. In order to protect the environment, we try to reduce excess packaging materials, we found that the box of the magnifying glass can hold all the items in the set, so the box of the magnifying glass became a simple box
- Some buyers received the goods without opening the box, thinking they received the magnifying glass, but did not know that the box was full of all the things, began to exchange, refund, bad reviews, complaints. This led to most of our inventory being banned by Amazon and losing a lot of goods.
- It is we did not write clearly the box contains all the goods led to some friends misunderstanding, if you receive the goods, please open the box to check. If you have bad reviews or complaints, we sincerely hope that you can modify the instructions according to the actual situation, thank you very much.

How to decide whether to grade your card
- Identify the exact card. Match the set, card number, edition and any other distinguishing details before comparing prices.
- Check completed sales. Find recent sales for the same card at relevant graded levels and for comparable raw copies. Do not substitute active listings or population counts for completed-sale prices.
- Estimate likely condition realistically. Consider a plausible range of grades, not only the best-case result. The grade is uncertain until the company assesses the card.
- Add all costs. Include the grading fee, shipping, insurance, any value-based upcharge and the fees and costs involved in selling.
- Account for time and market movement. A turnaround estimate is not guaranteed, and the sale market may change before the card returns.
- Decide what you value. Easier condition comparison or a sealed holder may matter to you even if the expected sale proceeds do not exceed the costs. If resale is your goal, compare the likely net proceeds—not just the headline graded price—with the raw-card alternative.
Submitting and buying graded cards safely
Before you submit
PSA’s FAQ describes completing an online submission form and mailing the form, card and payment. Follow the chosen grader’s current packing instructions. PSA warns that poorly packed, hard-to-retrieve or transit-damaged submissions may be refused; a particular sleeve brand or model is not a stated requirement. Review the current PSA FAQ and submission guidance before shipping.

PSA says at least two authentication and grading professionals examine cards entering its grading room and that professionals must agree on a grade; it also acknowledges differences of opinion. Its grade guarantee has terms and restrictions. It is not insurance against market loss or a promise that a card will retain a particular resale price.
When buying a graded card
Use the grading company’s official certification-verification resource and available front-and-back images. Compare the card itself with its label and certification details. A holder described as tamper-evident is not impossible to counterfeit, and neither a holder nor a certification number establishes what the card is worth.
