PlayStation Plus monthly games are a recurring membership benefit: claim a game during its monthly offer and you can download and play it while your membership is active. Extra and Premium also include access to rotating game catalogs. Add-ons you buy for a catalog game do not unlock its base game, and you can use them only while you have access to that game. If your membership lapses or the game leaves the catalog, access to its related add-ons is suspended until you regain access to the base game.
Monthly games and the Game Catalog are different benefits
Monthly games are the titles offered to PlayStation Plus members each calendar month. They are separate from the Game Catalog, a rotating library available with eligible higher tiers. Claiming a monthly game adds it to your library; catalog access depends on the game remaining available and your plan including that catalog.

How to claim a monthly game
Use the console’s PlayStation Plus area to add the offer to your library. The menu labels differ slightly between PS5 and PS4:
#1 Best Overall
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
- On PS5: Open PlayStation Plus, select Benefits, then Monthly Games. Choose a game and select Download.
- On PS4: Open PlayStation Plus, choose Monthly Games, select a game, then choose Add to Library and Download.
PlayStation says new monthly games are added each calendar month. A claimed monthly game remains playable only while the membership is active; it is not a permanent purchase. PlayStation Support: How to access PlayStation Plus games
How catalog access works—and why a game may disappear
Extra and Premium members can download eligible Game Catalog titles while those games are offered in the catalog. Catalog membership is not ownership: a title can leave, sometimes with an announced departure date. Check the current catalog listing and any departure notice before starting a long game, especially if you expect to finish it later.

Premium also provides access to the Classics Catalog and Game Trials in the US plan description. Catalog downloading and streaming are not interchangeable: a suitable plan and title eligibility are required for either option. What happens to DLC and add-ons for a catalog game?
You may purchase DLC for a Game Catalog title, but buying an add-on does not grant a license to the base game. The add-on is useful only when you can also play its associated game. PlayStation’s Canada catalog FAQ says access to associated DLC and add-ons is lost if membership expires or the game leaves the service; that access returns if you resubscribe or buy the base game. The FAQ is Canadian, so check your local PlayStation Store terms for jurisdiction-specific details. PlayStation Canada: Game Catalog FAQ
Rank #3
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
- You still have access to the base game: Purchased DLC can be used with it, subject to the add-on’s compatibility and any other stated requirements.
- Your membership expires: Catalog access ends, and associated DLC access is unavailable until you resubscribe or purchase the game.
- The base game leaves the catalog: The same rule applies even if your membership is still active. Buy the base game or wait until you regain access to use its associated add-ons again.
Streaming limits and connection guidance
PlayStation says DLC and add-ons are not supported while streaming a title. If using an add-on matters, download and play the game instead, where the title and plan support downloading. PlayStation’s catalog guide lists 5 Mbps as the minimum connection speed for streaming and 15 Mbps for 1080p. These are PlayStation’s stated thresholds, not a guarantee of smooth performance; actual streaming quality can vary. PlayStation Support: catalog access and streaming requirements

- You only want monthly offers: Essential includes monthly games in the US plan description.
- You want a rotating selection to download: Extra includes the Game Catalog; check whether your desired title is currently listed.
- You want Classics Catalog access, trials, or streaming benefits: Premium adds these benefits in the US plan description. Verify local tier features and whether the particular title can be streamed.
- You are considering DLC for a catalog game: Confirm that you can access the base game for as long as you expect to use the add-on. Catalog departure can interrupt access even while membership remains active.
Plan descriptions and catalogs can change. On PlayStation’s US plans page, PS4 games are described as being added only intermittently from January 2026; this is a policy detail for that page and region, not a promise about another country’s catalog. PlayStation Plus plans and catalog details
