From there, you can choose a lock-screen wallpaper, coordinate colors with it, and—on Android 16 and higher—edit the lock-screen clock. Shortcuts, notifications and other lock-screen information are configurable in the same area, though the controls available depend on your Pixel and Android version.
Where to customize your Pixel lock screen
From the home screen, touch and hold an empty area, then tap Wallpaper & style and open Lock screen. Swipe up to reveal the available settings. Google’s instructions and setting names may vary by Android version or device, so a control described below may not appear on every Pixel.

Change the lock-screen clock
Google documents the lock-screen clock editor for Android 16 and higher. It offers preset styles and controls for options such as width, color, shade and size.
- Touch and hold an empty area on the home screen.
- Tap Wallpaper & style, then Lock screen.
- Swipe up to show the settings and tap Clock.
- Choose a clock style. Where available, adjust its width, choose a color or match it to the wallpaper theme, and set the shade.
- Choose whether to use the large clock option, then tap Apply.
This setting changes the lock-screen clock, not necessarily the clock in the Clock app or the screen saver; Google documents those separately in its clock display guidance.

Choose a lock-screen wallpaper and coordinate colors
In Wallpaper & style, select a preset wallpaper or a personal photo. When the destination choices are offered, apply it to the lock screen, the home screen, or both. A lock-screen wallpaper can therefore be different from the home-screen image.
Pixel’s wallpaper color options include palettes based on the current wallpaper. These help coordinate the interface, but they do not mean every wallpaper will recolor every visible element in the same way. Google also offers downloadable seasonal theme packs that can change wallpapers, icons, GIFs and sounds. Pack availability varies by location, and Google says the latest Android OS and current Theme pack updates are prerequisites. See Google’s wallpaper and theme instructions.

Google’s published compatibility information lists several wallpaper tools with different device thresholds:

Set shortcuts, notifications and other lock-screen information
Under Wallpaper & style > Lock screen, Google documents controls for what appears or can be reached while the phone is locked. Available shortcut choices include:
- Do Not Disturb
- Home
- QR code scanner
- Wallet
- Camera
- Flashlight
- Mute
- Video camera
Notification settings let you show or hide notifications, choose a compact view or full list, and decide whether to show viewed icons, silent notifications or sensitive content. Other documented options include personal text, device controls while locked, Dynamic clock, Now Playing, tap-to-check, lift-to-check and waking the screen for notifications. Which controls appear depends on the device and software.

For Always-on display, Google says lock-screen wallpaper is limited to Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL. This is a distinct eligibility limit from choosing a lock-screen wallpaper generally.
Keep appearance settings separate from phone security
A clock style, wallpaper, shortcut or notification display setting does not secure access to the phone. To control who can unlock it, set a screen lock such as a PIN, pattern or password, or use a supported fingerprint or face unlock. Google notes that setup steps can vary by device; see its Pixel screen-lock instructions.

If your concern is message privacy while the phone is locked, adjust the lock-screen notification and sensitive-content settings rather than relying on a wallpaper or theme change. These controls affect what is visible; they are not a replacement for an unlock method.
