In Pakistan, ordinary National Savings prize-bond winners are selected at a public draw held by a committee constituted by the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS). National Savings says the ceremony uses a hand-operated draw machine, which members of the public may check before the draw begins. A bond must also meet the applicable eligibility cutoff, and a winning result does not guarantee a prize claim until the holder follows the official claim process.
How an ordinary prize bond draw works
- Check the denomination’s scheduled draw. National Savings publishes draw dates and locations by denomination. Use the current Prize Bonds schedule to identify the applicable draw, then consult the official draw results for its winning numbers.
- Confirm that the bond is eligible. National Savings says an ordinary bond must have been issued at least 60 days before its draw date. The 60 days before a draw are described as a “shut period,” when sales of that denomination stop through the State Bank and other authorized organizations. Eligibility depends on the issue date and the applicable draw; owning a bond number alone does not put it into every draw.
- The committee conducts the public ceremony. National Savings describes a draw held by a CDNS-constituted committee, open to the public. Its FAQ says winning bonds are drawn with a hand-operated machine, usually operated by special children in front of committee members and attendees. The public may check the machine before the draw begins. The State Bank of Pakistan also describes the ceremony in its National Prize Bonds FAQ.
- Match the number to the right official result. Check the result for the exact denomination and draw date. Do not rely on a list for another denomination or draw. The National Savings download page is the official source for published results.
What the public process does—and does not—establish
The public ceremony, committee, hand-operated machine and pre-draw check are the process National Savings describes. The official material cited here does not explain a technical randomization algorithm, establish machine certification, or publish an independent audit report. That means the described procedure can be reported, but it is not evidence for a specific statistical guarantee or independent technical verification.

Can a particular bond or strategy ensure a win?
No. National Savings says a prize cannot be ensured. Holding more eligible bonds gives a holder more entries in the draw and therefore a greater probability than holding fewer, but it does not predict which number will be drawn or guarantee a prize. The FAQ cites 999,999 numbers in an ordinary bond series; that figure alone is not enough to calculate a holder’s overall odds because the full current prize-tier and eligible-series details are needed. Past winning numbers likewise do not establish that a number is more or less likely in a later draw.

Ordinary and Premium Prize Bonds follow different processes
Do not apply the ordinary bearer-bond claim instructions automatically to a registered Premium Prize Bond. National Savings describes Premium Prize Bonds as registered to the investor, with prize money and profit credited directly to the investor’s bank account under the product’s normal payment process.

These denominations and product terms are those shown on National Savings pages checked in 2026; schedules and product details can change. Consult the current Prize Bonds page, Premium Prize Bond page and rules for the denomination you hold. The 60-day rule above is the ordinary-bond rule stated by National Savings and should not be assumed to replace the applicable Premium Prize Bond rules.
How to claim prize money on an ordinary winning bond
National Savings says an ordinary prize claim may generally be lodged after about three or four working days, though its FAQ also gives a different four-to-five-working-day estimate. The claim window it states is six years from the relevant draw. Because timing and procedures can change, confirm the current instructions before submitting a claim.

- National Savings identifies a claim form, a valid CNIC copy, the original winning bond and a signed photocopy as claim documents.
- For claims up to Rs. 1,250, its FAQ names National Savings Centres, authorized scheduled-bank branches or State Bank branches.
- For claims above Rs. 1,250, the FAQ directs claimants to State Bank branches only.
These are the instructions listed in the National Savings bond FAQ; check that page or the relevant office for the current form, documents and submission location. They apply to ordinary bearer bonds, not the normal direct-credit process for registered Premium Prize Bonds.
Tax and current details to verify
When checked in 2026, National Savings showed withholding tax on prize money of 15% for filers and 30% for non-filers. These are the rates shown by the official source at that time, not a timeless tax rule; verify the current rate and your tax status before estimating what a prize will pay. The same check is worthwhile for draw dates, denominations, eligibility rules and claim instructions.
