NieR:Automata’s main story unfolds across connected routes, not a collection of unrelated alternate realities. Ending A is only the first major stopping point: continue from your cleared save to play Route B, then progress to the later finale, where you can see Endings C and D before reaching Ending E.
What is the main route order?
The main-story progression is commonly summarized as A → B → C/D → E. The letters mark successive story outcomes and routes, rather than five separate campaigns.

What happens after Ending A?
Keep playing from the cleared save when the game prompts you. Ending A closes Route A, but does not finish the main story. Route B follows 9S and revisits much of the earlier events from his perspective, adding another view of what happened.

Do you have to replay the whole game for Ending D?
No. Endings C and D are alternate results of the later finale, not separate full campaigns. After seeing one result, use chapter select to return to the final stretch and make the alternate character choice to reach the other outcome. You do not need to replay Routes A and B for that second finale result, according to the route guide.
Is Ending E separate from the C/D choice?
Ending E comes after both C and D in the guide’s described progression. It is not simply a third choice made during the same finale: first see both C/D outcomes, then continue through the resulting sequence.

Are all endings part of the main story?
No. A–E are the main sequence. The game also has other endings, but their exact triggers are not established by the cited ending index and route guide. Treat a complete optional-ending checklist as a separate task: each trigger needs to be checked individually rather than inferred from the A–E route order.
