How the motion tracking works
The camera is the system’s input: it gives Playground a view of the people in front of the TV. Nex describes the software that interprets movement as proprietary computer vision and AI. The company says it tracks 18 nodes on a player’s body in real time, then uses movement to let players interact with games.

Nex’s broader Motion Engine description characterizes its technology as real-time, vision-based machine learning tuned for movement-heavy uses such as sports, fitness and motion gaming. Nex also says the engine is integrated with Unity. That provides context about the company’s technology, but it does not document every detail of how a particular Playground game recognizes or responds to movement.

The 18-node figure is Nex’s description of the tracking output, not a published map of the points or a complete technical specification. Nex’s public materials do not identify the positions of those nodes, the camera sensor specifications, the model architecture, or the processing stages that turn camera input into game controls. They also do not publish a universal gesture-to-action map; controls can depend on the game.

For that reason, it would be speculation to describe the system as using a particular pose-estimation model, depth sensor, infrared system or skeletal-reconstruction method. The established description is camera-based computer vision and AI, as stated by Nex.
Why players don’t need to wear or hold a controller
Playground uses body movement as the gameplay input, so Nex says players do not need to wear tracking suits or attach body sensors, and games do not require holding a controller. The included remote is for initial setup and selecting games. Nex’s product page puts it plainly: “The remote controller is for navigation only as the games do not require it for gameplay.”

How many people can it track at once?
Nex says Playground can track up to four players concurrently, depending on the game. Four is therefore a game-dependent maximum, not a guarantee that every title supports four-player motion tracking. Nex does not publish a different node layout or tracking specification for each supported player count.
How to position the console for tracking
The camera needs a clear view of the players. Nex recommends centering the console in front of or below the TV, near the edge of the surface so the camera can see as much of the play area as possible. Its setup guidance gives a device height of 15–60 inches and recommends an area of about 6 by 6 feet. These are Nex’s recommendations; the best arrangement in a particular room depends on keeping the camera’s view unobstructed.

The console package lists a magnetic privacy cover, remote, power cable, HDMI cable and five-game Starter Pack as included. The listed accessories mean buyers should not assume they need a separate camera or wearable motion controller to use the tracking system.
What Nex says about video, privacy and offline play
Nex says the motion-tracking algorithms run directly on the device and that video is not processed in the cloud. Its Help Center also says downloaded games can be played offline. That describes where Nex says tracking is processed; it does not mean the camera never captures or temporarily processes images.

Nex’s product FAQ says certain games may temporarily record video locally for replays or highlights, and that these recordings are not saved. Nex also says the camera indicator light glows when the camera is active, and the console has a magnetic privacy cover. Its software policy says the system runs authorized operating-system versions, apps and games, and does not allow third-party apps or games to be installed. Nex’s safety page describes Playground as kidSAFE+ COPPA certified; that certification claim is Nex’s.
What is—and isn’t—publicly known about performance
Nex’s published descriptions establish the basic approach, but they do not provide an independently measured accuracy statistic, latency figure or external benchmark. They also do not explain the precise gesture mapping for individual games. Claims about exact precision, responsiveness or how a specific movement is interpreted should therefore be treated as unverified unless Nex publishes more detailed information.
