There is no Netflix-guaranteed way to watch the US catalog from Australia. Netflix says each country has its own selection, and using a VPN can hide your region and leave you with titles licensed worldwide instead. A VPN is therefore not a reliable route to American Netflix.
Can you watch American Netflix in Australia?
Netflix says its catalog varies by country, and that you can change your account country only if you move to another country. Its guidance does not promise that changing your apparent location will unlock the US catalog.

Netflix explains that a VPN hides your region. In that case, it may show only titles it has rights to stream worldwide, rather than the selection available in the United States. Netflix gives globally licensed titles such as Squid Game and Stranger Things as examples. See Netflix’s account-country guidance and its VPN guidance.
Does a VPN work with Netflix in Australia?
Netflix’s official guidance describes restrictions and possible catalog limitations, not a dependable method for accessing US titles. It does not establish that any particular VPN provider will reliably show the American catalog. Avoid treating a provider’s claim or a successful connection as a guarantee that a specific title will play.

If that country does not match your actual location, Netflix says a VPN may be active. Contact the VPN provider for instructions to disable it; the steps vary by service.
These checks help identify a VPN-related connection issue; they do not make the US catalog available.

If you are traveling rather than trying to change your catalog region, Netflix says you can use the service as usual on mobile devices and computers. The available titles, audio, and subtitles can differ in the country you visit, so access to a show at home does not guarantee it will be available while away. Read Netflix’s guidance on using Netflix outside your home.

For a second home, Netflix recommends connecting to the service at the main viewing location monthly and repeating the relevant steps at the second location. This is household and travel guidance, not a promise of access to a chosen country’s catalog. Netflix Australia’s household-sharing statement says an account is for one household and that household members can use Netflix away from home or on holiday; that statement was published on 23 May 2023. No. Netflix Australia lists smart TVs, streaming media players, and game consoles among its playback-device categories. A compatible device can let you watch Netflix on that screen, but it does not change your location or the catalog Netflix makes available. Check Netflix Australia for device information.
