A lighter user can manage with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage by keeping app use modest, streaming rather than downloading media, and regularly clearing or backing up files. These are practical buying targets—not official Android recommendations.
RAM and storage do different jobs
RAM is working memory. It gives apps room to stay active while you switch between them; with less available RAM, apps may need to reload more often. Storage holds the operating system, apps, photos, videos, downloads, and other files. More storage gives you more room to keep those items on the phone.

They are separate constraints: extra storage does not provide more RAM, and a microSD card cannot add RAM.

4GB: a constrained choice for lighter use
4GB can suit messaging, browsing, calls, and a modest collection of apps, especially if you do not expect many apps to remain active while switching. It is a practical minimum for a buyer considering a current budget Android phone, not a guarantee of smooth performance in every app or configuration.

- Carrier: This phone is locked to Tracfone, which means this device can only be used on the Tracfone wireless network. Tracfone plan required, activating is easy, just 3 steps.
- DISPLAY: Immersive viewing on a 6.7-inch super-bright 120Hz display with powerful stereo speakers and Bass Boost for cinematic entertainment.
- CAMERA SYSTEM: Advanced 50MP Quad Pixel camera captures sharp, detailed photos and videos in any lighting condition
- PERFORMANCE: Lightning-fast 5G connectivity paired with a powerful processor and RAM Boost for smooth multitasking.
- BATTERY LIFE: Long-lasting 5000mAh battery with TurboPower charging technology delivers hours of power in minutes.
6GB: a sensible target for most budget buyers
Choose 6GB when you regularly switch between apps, play games, use heavier apps, or want more headroom over a longer ownership period. When two phones are otherwise comparable and the price difference is reasonable, more RAM is generally the better fit for those uses.
8GB: extra headroom when the price makes sense
8GB can provide more room for demanding use and app switching. Treat it as a useful upgrade rather than a requirement: weigh the exact price and the rest of the phone’s configuration instead of paying extra for a number alone. The 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB figures here are buying heuristics, not official Android thresholds or results from a consumer performance study.

How much storage should you choose?
64GB: workable if you manage files
64GB may be enough if you use a small set of apps, stream music and video instead of saving them offline, and periodically delete or back up photos and downloads. Remember that advertised capacity is not all available for your own files: the phone’s software and preinstalled content also use space.

128GB is a better target for most buyers, particularly if you take photos and videos, install several large apps or games, download media, or plan to keep the phone for years. Consider more internal storage if you regularly record video or keep substantial offline libraries on the device.

Can a microSD card make up for less internal storage?
A microSD card can help hold shared files on a phone that supports one, but it does not add RAM and is not a universal substitute for built-in storage. Android’s compatibility rules allow shared storage to use removable SD media or internal storage; they do not mean that every phone has a card slot or that every app can be moved to a card. Check the exact phone variant’s slot, supported card capacity, and limits on what can be saved or moved before relying on expansion. Android Compatibility Definition Document

Google describes Android (Go edition) as an operating system for entry-level phones with less RAM than higher-end devices. Its published minimum table lists 512MB for Android 8.1, 9, and 10 Go; 1GB for Android 11 and 12 Go; and 2GB for Android 13 Go. The table does not include later Go releases, so those figures should not be extended to them by assumption. These are platform figures for Go editions, not recommendations for comfortable use of every current budget phone. Google’s Android (Go edition) documentation

Check the exact phone configuration before buying
- Match capacity to how you use the phone: prioritize RAM for frequent app switching and heavier apps; prioritize internal storage for photos, video, games, and offline downloads.
- Verify the variant: one phone family may be sold with different RAM and storage combinations. Confirm the exact configuration and region, not just the model name in a retailer headline.
- Check the Android edition and features: Go editions and individual features can have specific requirements or trade-offs. Google, for example, lists some features as disabled by default on Go.
- Check named feature eligibility: Google Support says Gemini Go is available on Android Go devices with at least 2GB RAM, subject to account access, geographic availability, and gradual rollout. Confirm the current requirements for any feature you specifically want. Gemini Apps Help: Gemini Go eligibility
- Confirm expansion details: if you plan to use a card, verify that the precise model and regional variant has a microSD slot and supports the capacity you intend to buy.
