“PS3” covers hardware with meaningful differences. Find the complete CECH model number on the console label before comparing prices; storage capacity alone is not enough to identify a comparable system.

Some early models have backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 games, a feature that can attract additional buyer and collector interest. Sony’s October 2007 announcement said the new 40GB model was “no longer backwards compatible with PlayStation®2 titles” and described the then-current 60GB model as having “extensive backwards compatibility.” That distinction does not apply to every original-style PS3: check the exact CECH identifier and regional compatibility rather than assuming a fat PS3 plays PS2 discs. How to estimate what your PS3 can sell for
- Identify the hardware. Read the CECH model number from the console label and note the storage capacity.
- Test it and describe the result. Check that it powers on, reads discs, pairs with a controller, and has working ports and stable gameplay. Disclose failures or intermittent behavior rather than pricing it as fully working.
- Find genuinely comparable sales. Search completed or sold listings for the same model and region. Match working status, cosmetic condition, controller, cables and packaging as closely as possible.
- Compare several ordinary examples. Do not let one boxed or sealed outlier set the value for a typical used unit. Decide on an asking price with negotiation in mind, and account for shipping and marketplace fees separately; the cited sales do not establish a universal fee-adjusted amount.
- Check early models carefully. If yours is a launch-era 20GB or 60GB console, verify its exact model and compatibility before comparing it with later systems.

What to include in a sale listing
- The full CECH model number and storage capacity.
- Whether the console was tested, what was tested, and any known faults.
- Exactly which accessories are included, such as a controller and power or video cables.
- Clear information about cosmetic condition and whether the original box, manuals or inserts are included.
