If Chrome stops responding when you try to print, first identify where it hangs: before the print window appears, while destinations load, or after you select a printer. Then check whether the same page prints in another browser and whether another app can print. Those comparisons help separate a Chrome or page problem from a Windows queue, driver, or printer setup issue; the message alone does not identify the cause.
First, pinpoint where Chrome stops responding
Note the exact failure point before changing settings. Record your operating system, Chrome version, printer model, and whether the problem happens with every page or only one. Also note whether the destination list appears and whether another browser or a non-browser app can print. There is no single confirmed cause that applies to every Chrome print hang.

- Before the print window appears: the problem may involve Chrome, the page, or the browser’s current workload.
- While destinations load: check whether Chrome can complete a simpler print attempt, such as printing a different page or choosing Save as PDF.
- After choosing a printer: compare with printing from another app; if that also fails, investigate the operating system’s print queue and printer setup.
Try a basic print and browser comparison
Google’s documented desktop shortcut is Ctrl+P on Windows and Linux or Command+P on Mac. In the print window, choose a destination and settings. If you only need a digital copy, choose Save as PDF rather than a physical printer. See Google’s instructions for printing from Chrome.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open the page and use the print shortcut for your operating system.
- If the print window opens, try Save as PDF or another available destination.
- Try printing the same content in a different browser, then try printing a document from a non-browser app.
If only one page causes the hang, that does not establish that the printer is faulty. If other browsers and applications print successfully while Chrome does not, focus next on Chrome-specific isolation.

Check whether Chrome itself is the source
Google’s general freeze guidance recommends closing unused tabs and apps, restarting Chrome, and testing the same task in another browser. These are broad browser troubleshooting steps, not a guaranteed repair for print preview. Follow Google’s guidance for Chrome crashes or failures to open.
Reduce browser workload and restart
- Close tabs you do not need and quit other resource-intensive apps.
- Close and reopen Chrome, then retry the same print action.
- If Chrome remains unresponsive, restart the computer and test again.
Use Incognito and extensions as a diagnostic
Try the page in an Incognito window. If printing works there but not in a regular window, an extension or profile context may be involved; it is a clue, not proof. Google also recommends checking extensions as part of general browser troubleshooting. Temporarily disable extensions, retry, and re-enable them selectively to identify whether one changes the result. See Google’s Chrome troubleshooting guidance.

If printing also fails outside Chrome on Windows
These steps apply to Windows 10 and Windows 11, not macOS or ChromeOS. If another app cannot print either, check Windows’ queue and printer setup before treating the issue as Chrome-only. Microsoft’s guidance covers stuck jobs, drivers, and spooler-related problems: Fix printer connection and printing problems in Windows.
Check and clear stuck print jobs
Open the printer’s queue in Windows settings and look for jobs that remain stuck. Cancel stuck jobs if possible, then try a small test print. A queue that remains blocked can prevent later jobs from progressing.

Consider the driver and Print Spooler
An outdated or conflicting driver can disrupt printing. If a driver update or reinstall is needed, use the printer manufacturer’s driver for the exact model rather than an unrelated model’s package. For spooler-related symptoms, Microsoft explains that “The spooler manages all print jobs in Windows 11, and when it fails, documents stay stuck in the queue and the printer becomes unresponsive.” See Microsoft’s instructions for Print Spooler errors for Windows-specific steps.
For ChromeOS, use Chromebook printer setup
Chromebook printer setup is different from Windows and Mac troubleshooting. For a network printer, Google says the Chromebook and printer should be on the same network; USB setup is also covered. Follow the printer maker’s instructions for model-specific setup. These steps apply only to ChromeOS devices. See Google’s Chromebook printer setup instructions.

When to escalate the problem
If the hang continues, give support enough detail to distinguish browser, page, and printer-side symptoms. Contact Google through Chrome feedback or its Help Community for a Chrome-only failure; contact the printer manufacturer when printing fails across apps or the setup/driver appears implicated. A community post dated September 14, 2026, uses similar “not responding” wording for a print-to-PDF hang, but that is a user’s report, not a verified fix: Google Chrome Help Community discussion.

Google’s print help describes printing from Chrome with a computer or mobile device; it does not identify one universal cause for an unresponsive desktop print flow. The useful next step depends on which comparison fails, rather than on the “not responding” message by itself. See Google Chrome Help: Print from Chrome.
