Linode’s current entry-level example is the Nanode 1 GB at US$5 per month, with 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, 25 GB storage and 1 TB of transfer. That is a displayed price, not a guaranteed checkout total for every region. Linode compute is billed hourly up to a monthly cap, so “renewal” is better understood as recurring usage charges—not one universal annual renewal price.
What does Linode cost in 2026?
Akamai’s pricing page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists these representative Compute plans and add-on rates. Prices are in US dollars; availability and regional pricing can vary. Use the live Akamai Cloud pricing page and calculator with your intended region and configuration before ordering.

Akamai says Compute is billed hourly up to the monthly price cap, with charges rounded to the nearest hour. Invoices are issued monthly, or mid-month if the account reaches a billing threshold. In practice, a service that remains on your account can generate recurring usage charges, with the monthly cap applying to Compute—not necessarily to every separate service or account cost.

The available pricing information does not establish a universal fixed annual renewal rate or guarantee that every account has identical terms. Check any promotion, tax, regional charge or special agreement against your own account and invoice.
A powered-off instance can still cost money
Turning off an instance does not stop its billing if the service remains on the account. To stop further Compute charges, remove the service. You can save an image first if you need to preserve its state, but image storage is chargeable. Akamai’s pricing page lists images starting at US$0.10 per GB-month.

Akamai staff billing guidance says invoice detail shows the service period, billed hours, unit price and tax; pooled network transfer can also affect the total. Check the invoice and the calculator for your account-specific usage rather than estimating from the instance’s power state alone.
What extra costs should you include?
The instance price is only one part of a cloud-server budget. Account for data transfer, persistent storage and any optional services you enable. The following rates are listed on Akamai’s pricing page accessed October 7, 2026:

- Transfer: inbound traffic is free. General egress overage is US$0.005 per GB; distributed compute region egress is US$0.01 per GB.
- Block Storage: US$0.10 per GB-month.
- Object Storage: US$0.02 per GB-month, with the first 1 TB per month of egress free and subsequent egress at US$0.005 per GB. A US$5 minimum applies when total account storage is under 250 GB.
- NodeBalancer: US$10 per month or US$0.015 per hour.
- Kubernetes control plane: optional LKE HA is US$60 per cluster per month; LKE Enterprise with HA and a dedicated control plane is US$300 per cluster per month.
- Managed databases: MySQL and PostgreSQL clusters are billed monthly according to node size and node count; a cluster can have 1–3 nodes.
For a bandwidth-heavy application, estimate outbound data against the included transfer allowance and applicable overage rate before selecting a server. For short-lived workloads, include nearest-hour rounding and compare expected hourly use with the plan’s monthly cap.
How should you choose a Linode plan?
Start with the workload, not the lowest advertised price. Akamai positions Shared CPU for cost-efficient development and testing, Dedicated CPU for consistent performance in production or latency-sensitive applications, and High Memory for in-memory databases and analytics.

- CPU consistency: decide whether shared compute is sufficient or whether the workload needs dedicated CPU resources and more consistent performance.
- Memory and compute shape: match RAM and CPU resources to the application’s actual demand; memory-bound databases, for example, may need a different balance from a small test server.
- Storage: compare included disk capacity with your persistent data needs. Add Block Storage or Object Storage only where the use case calls for it.
- Transfer: compare the included allowance with expected outbound traffic and possible egress charges.
- Region: check both availability and the calculator’s region-specific estimate.
- Optional services: include backups or images, load balancing, managed databases and Kubernetes control-plane features in the total if you need them.
- Runtime: compare the likely hourly cost with the monthly cap; brief use can still incur a full hour when charges are rounded.
For intensive workloads, Akamai advises evaluating CPU generation, shared versus dedicated cores, RAM, storage throughput and network I/O, then benchmarking the application before scaling. A listed vCPU count or monthly price alone cannot establish how a particular workload will perform.
When is Object Storage useful?
Akamai describes Object Storage as S3-compatible cloud file storage, including for Compute backups. Its documented uses include static sites, archives, application artifacts, multimedia and data backup. It can be appropriate for object data that does not need to live on a server’s attached disk. The documentation lists Atlanta, Frankfurt, Newark and Singapore as availability locations, but availability can change; verify the target location and current pricing before relying on it.
