There is no single monthly price for self-hosting Odoo. The total depends on the edition or subscription you use, server and backup costs, implementation, and the time or paid help needed to maintain the system. A DigitalOcean Basic Droplet with 4 GiB of RAM and 2 vCPUs is listed at $24 per month, but that is one provider’s price—not a recommendation that the server is sufficient for your business.
What does self-hosting Odoo actually cost?
Separate the bill into software, infrastructure, backup and recovery, implementation, and ongoing operations. A low server bill does not include the work of configuring Odoo, maintaining it, or restoring service after a problem.

- Software: Community is free and open source under LGPLv3, according to Odoo’s edition and administration documentation. Enterprise is a separate edition with more functionality and may require a paid subscription.
- Server or platform: A self-managed VPS has an infrastructure charge; managed hosting plans have their own subscription terms.
- Backups: Include storage, retention, and the effort to test recovery—not just the existence of backup files.
- Implementation: Workflow configuration, data migration, email and access setup, customizations, and staff training are separate from simply installing the software.
- Operations: Budget for security, monitoring, operating-system and Odoo upgrades, PostgreSQL and server maintenance, incident response, and custom-code upkeep.
Odoo says implementation services are outside its subscription plans and can include project management, analysis, imports, customizations, development, and training. The price depends on scope; there is no supported universal implementation figure or hourly rate to apply to every small business.
How much might the server cost?
As a provider-specific reference, DigitalOcean’s live pricing page listed a Basic Droplet with 4 GiB RAM and 2 vCPUs for $24 per month when accessed on October 4, 2026. This is a public price point, not evidence that the configuration is adequate for a particular Odoo workload. The bill can vary with location, currency, tax, storage, and plan changes. DigitalOcean lists backup options separately, and its pricing page states that per-second billing took effect January 1, 2026: DigitalOcean Droplet pricing.

Odoo 16.0’s administration documentation also cautions that packaged installers used for long-term production require additional deployment and maintenance work. A VPS price therefore does not describe the full cost of running a production system.
Is self-hosted Odoo free?
Odoo Community is free and open source, but “free” describes the software—not the server, setup, backups, or labor. Enterprise is a separate shared-source edition with additional functionality and can involve a subscription. Odoo’s pricing arrangements depend on the edition and hosting choice; check the current terms for the number of users and features you need at Odoo’s pricing page.

Self-managed VPS, Odoo Online, or Odoo.sh?
These choices allocate hosting work differently. The available official information does not establish a like-for-like total cost for all three, so compare the whole operating arrangement rather than declaring one universally cheapest.

Before comparing quotes, record monthly cash cost, setup and migration cost, internal technical time, module compatibility, backup and disaster-recovery responsibility, data region, and upgrade burden. These are different costs and responsibilities; an included hosting plan is not equivalent to a bare VPS.

Monthly cash outlay = Odoo subscription (if applicable) + server or platform + backup and storage + domain, email, or other services + paid support and maintenance.
First-year total cost = setup and migration + 12 × monthly cash outlay + internal staff time.
For each estimate, write down the edition, paying-user count, country and currency, server size and region, expected data growth, backup retention, custom-module needs, and who will operate the system. Without those inputs, a personalized total cannot be calculated responsibly. The $24/month Droplet is the only numerical self-hosted server example established here; the other costs depend on your configuration and scope.

What to include in backup and recovery planning
Price backup storage and decide how long to retain copies, but also test that you can restore both the database and the files your deployment needs. A backup file that cannot be restored within an acceptable time is not a complete recovery plan.
Odoo says its own plans include incremental daily backups on two continents. That is a managed-plan inclusion; do not assume it applies to a self-managed VPS. DigitalOcean lists backup services as separately priced options on its Droplet pricing page.
What information do you need before choosing?
- Country and preferred data region
- Number of backend users and expected transaction or workload levels
- Whether you need custom modules or development workflows
- Required uptime and acceptable recovery time
- Backup retention and data-growth expectations
- Who will handle administration, upgrades, security, and incidents
With those details, you can compare current local VPS pricing with Odoo’s applicable subscription and Odoo.sh terms, then explicitly price implementation, labor, and recovery needs. A server price by itself cannot settle whether self-hosting is economical for your business.
