How Much Do YouTubers Make? YouTube Earnings Explained

There is no universal YouTube pay rate per view. See how long-form ads, Shorts, fan funding, and other creator income routes are calculated.

There is no guaranteed amount YouTube pays per view or per 1,000 views—and YouTube does not publish a representative average or median income for creators. What a channel earns depends on which monetization routes it qualifies for, the revenue those routes generate, and how YouTube calculates the creator’s share. Views alone cannot tell you a creator’s income.

Why views do not translate into a fixed paycheck

YouTube’s partner earnings documentation says there are no guarantees under the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) about how much, or whether, a creator will be paid. A view count does not identify whether a video generated eligible ad revenue, what revenue was generated, or which other income streams the creator has.

That is why a single “YouTube pays X per 1,000 views” figure is not a reliable universal rate. A creator’s own YouTube Studio Analytics is the relevant place to check estimated revenue for their channel. Estimates can change, including because of invalid traffic, Content ID claims or disputes, and certain campaign types.

How YouTube’s revenue shares work

YouTube’s headline percentages apply to different revenue bases. They are not interchangeable rates per view, and none guarantees a particular payout.

Route What the share applies to What to keep in mind
Long-form watch-page ads Creators who accept the Watch Page Monetization Module receive 55% of net revenue from ads displayed or streamed on eligible public videos’ watch pages, including qualifying embeds. This is a share of net ad revenue, not a promised CPM, RPM, or amount per view.
Shorts feed ads Creators who accept the Shorts Monetization Module receive 45% of the revenue allocated to them from the Shorts Creator Pool. The pool is calculated monthly. Allocation reflects eligible engaged Shorts views by country and music usage; licensing music can reduce the amount attributed to the pool before YouTube applies the creator’s share.
Fan funding Creators who accept the Commerce Product Module receive 70% of net revenue from channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks. This applies to the named fan-funding features, not to ad revenue or all channel income.

Shorts feed revenue sharing is separate from long-form watch-page monetization. A Shorts view and a long-form watch-page view therefore do not enter the same calculation.

Shorts earnings are calculated differently from long-form ads

YouTube pools Shorts feed ad revenue monthly. The Shorts Creator Pool allocation for eligible creators is based on each creator’s share of eligible engaged Shorts views in each country. Music usage affects the revenue attributed to the pool because music licensing can reduce that amount. The creator’s 45% share is applied to their allocation—not directly to a universal per-view rate.

As YouTube’s Shorts monetization policy explains, Shorts views receive ad revenue sharing from the Shorts Feed, separate from long-form video monetization on the Watch Page. A creator should use their own Shorts revenue figures in Analytics rather than infer earnings from view counts or apply a long-form rate to Shorts.

Ad revenue is only one possible part of a creator’s income

A channel’s total creator income may include routes beyond watch-page and Shorts ads. These have different eligibility requirements and depend on factors such as audience activity, sales, or negotiated arrangements; they do not create a uniform payment per view.

  • YouTube Premium: YouTube identifies Premium revenue allocation as a monetization route. It is separate from a simple view-count estimate.
  • Fan funding: Channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks can contribute when the creator is eligible and viewers choose to pay.
  • Products and shopping: Creators may sell their own products or, if eligible, earn through YouTube Shopping affiliate sales. Income depends on purchases rather than views alone.
  • Brand partnerships: Sponsorships and other brand work are commercial arrangements, not a standard YouTube per-view payment.

Keep these routes separate when considering a creator’s earnings. An ad-share percentage cannot be used to estimate a brand deal, product sale, or fan contribution.

YPP eligibility: dated thresholds and upcoming changes

Eligibility affects which monetization routes a creator can use. The YouTube Team’s February 3, 2025 YPP explainer described the following thresholds at that time. YouTube can change its rules, so check the current YPP terms for your channel and country before making plans.

Route described in the February 3, 2025 explainer Threshold described
Entry tier for fan-funding features and own-product promotion 500 subscribers, plus either 3,000 long-form watch hours or 3 million Shorts views.
Ad-revenue sharing 1,000 subscribers, plus either 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views.

These are the thresholds described in that dated explainer, not a claim that every creator currently faces the same requirements in every region or for every feature.

Changes announced for February 1, 2027

In an announcement dated August 10, 2026, YouTube described changes scheduled for February 1, 2027. Under the announced terms, monthly Shorts ad and Premium revenue sharing requires 10 million qualified Shorts views in the preceding 90 days. New YPP applicants seeking ad and Premium revenue sharing will need 8,000 qualified watch hours in the previous 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the preceding 90 days. YouTube said the new entry thresholds will not affect creators already in YPP. These are announced future rules, not rules already effective on October 3, 2026.

Where to check your actual earnings

Estimated revenue in YouTube Studio

Review estimated revenue in YouTube Studio Analytics for your channel and selected period. Treat it as an estimate: YouTube says figures can change because of invalid traffic, Content ID claims or disputes, and some campaign types.

Finalized earnings in AdSense for YouTube

YouTube says finalized prior-month earnings appear in AdSense for YouTube between the 7th and 12th of the current month. The amount ultimately paid can be affected by applicable tax withholding. Creators may also have tax obligations in their country or region; consult the relevant tax authority or a qualified tax professional for jurisdiction-specific guidance.

What platform-wide figures can—and cannot—tell you

YouTube reported paying $70 billion to creators, artists, and media companies over three years in 2025. It also reported 3 million channels in YPP and said 700,000 had joined in the prior three years. These are platform-scale figures, not evidence of a typical creator’s income or a median payout.

YouTube reported more than 500,000 creators enrolled in YouTube Shopping globally as of July 2025 and fivefold year-over-year growth in Shopping gross merchandise value. Neither figure establishes how much an individual creator earns. In August 2026, YouTube reported more than 200 billion daily Shorts views and more than one billion hours watched on TV daily; those usage figures likewise do not show creator earnings.

The official materials cited here do not establish a representative median or average annual income for YouTubers, or a universal RPM. Aggregate payouts, program size, and total viewership cannot substitute for those figures.

Keeping a YouTube stream online is not an earnings guarantee

For creators who also want uploaded videos to run as a continuous YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add a YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so a computer does not have to remain on; it does not stream from a camera. This can address the practical task of keeping a stream running, but it does not promise views, YPP eligibility, or revenue.
