For 24 hours of uninterrupted viewing, a rough India-focused estimate ranges from about 7.2 GB at Jio’s Low tier to 168 GB at its Ultra HD tier. Those figures apply Jio’s broad video-streaming estimates to a full day; they are not measurements or guarantees for YouTube Live. If you know the stream’s average delivered bitrate, estimate decimal data use with Mbps × 10.8 = approximate GB per 24 hours.
Estimated data for 24 hours of viewing
Jio publishes hourly estimates for video streaming across services and cautions that usage can vary by app or website, including YouTube, JioCinema, Netflix and Hotstar. Multiplying those hourly estimates by 24 gives a useful planning illustration, not a YouTube Live-specific measurement.

These tiers do not map to guaranteed YouTube resolutions or fixed data totals. A stream may not offer every quality, and automatic playback can change quality as conditions change. See Jio’s video-resolution data estimates for its caveat.
Estimate from the stream’s average bitrate
If you can determine the average bitrate actually delivered to the viewer, the arithmetic is more tailored than a broad quality tier. For decimal gigabytes:

These are calculations, not measured consumption. Actual use can differ if bitrate varies, and a mobile operator’s meter may use its own accounting conventions. For a partial day, multiply the approximate hourly rate (bitrate in Mbps × 0.45 GB) by the hours watched.

Why the encoder bitrate is not the viewer’s data rate
YouTube’s Live encoder guidance gives recommended input bitrates for broadcasters. For H.264, examples include 3 Mbps at 480p30, 8 Mbps at 720p30 or 720p60, 14 Mbps at 1080p30, and 17 Mbps at 1080p60. These are settings for sending a stream into YouTube, not a promise that each viewer downloads at that rate.
YouTube says it transcodes live streams into multiple output formats. The viewer’s delivered bitrate depends on the playback version and viewing conditions, so do not multiply an encoder setting by 10.8 and treat the result as a precise viewer total.
Watching a stream versus broadcasting one
Direction matters: a viewer downloads video, while a broadcaster uploads it. YouTube’s Filming tips – Live says that, when streaming from a mobile phone, “a good rule of thumb is that the stream will use about 10 MB of data per 1 minute of stream.” In that mobile-broadcast context, 24 hours works out arithmetically to about 14.4 GB sent by the broadcaster. It is not an estimate of what a viewer uses downloading a live stream.

How to keep viewing data lower or estimate your own use
Choose a lower playback quality
On a metered mobile connection, select a lower quality or Data saver in the YouTube player where available. Jio’s instructions for managing video-streaming data direct viewers to open the YouTube player settings and select video quality. YouTube notes that playback quality can change with viewing conditions and that available choices may vary; consult its video-quality guidance. Check the player’s choice during a long session rather than assuming Auto will hold one resolution all day.

- Note your device’s or carrier account’s data counter immediately before watching.
- Watch the same type of stream for a representative period using the quality setting you expect to use.
- Check the counter again and divide the data increase by the hours watched to estimate your hourly use.
- Multiply that hourly estimate by 24 for a rough daily projection, allowing for changes in quality and stream content.
This is a personal estimating method, not a published YouTube measurement. If you know the average delivered bitrate, use the bitrate calculation above instead.

The figures in this article concern watching.
