To simulcast, send the same live production to YouTube and your other social platforms at the same time. You can configure an encoder to send to multiple destinations, or send one feed to a cloud multistreaming service that distributes it. Prepare and test each destination before going live; YouTube says a first-time live-stream activation can take at least 24 hours.
Before you simulcast
Enable YouTube live streaming
Verify your YouTube channel and enable live streaming before broadcast day. YouTube says activation for a first live stream takes at least 24 hours after the initial request, so do not wait until the event to check access. See YouTube Help’s guidance on streaming across platforms.

Prepare every social destination
Sign in to each platform, confirm the account is active and in good standing, and review its current live-streaming requirements. Where a platform or encoder requires them, obtain that destination’s server URL and stream key. Setup and eligibility are platform-specific, so use each service’s current instructions rather than assuming one platform’s settings will work for another.
Check your connection and production
YouTube says sufficient internet upload speed is critical for high-quality simulstreaming. There is no universal upload-speed figure that applies to every setup: the required capacity depends on your bitrate, how many independent outputs you send, and whether you route through an encoder or a relay. Test the full setup, including audio, overlays, and every destination, before an event.

Choose how to distribute the stream
| Method | How it works | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder with multiple outputs | Your encoder sends the production to supported platform endpoints. | Confirm encoder support for each destination, configure each platform separately, and account for the upload capacity needed to send independent outputs. |
| Cloud multistream relay | Your encoder sends one feed to a relay service, which distributes it to connected destinations. | Check supported platforms, account authorization, channel limits and plan terms. The relay changes your outgoing distribution path; it does not remove destination or network requirements. |
YouTube describes simulstreaming as going live with the same content on multiple platforms at once. A relay such as Restream’s documented YouTube-and-Facebook workflow can be useful if you want to keep an OBS workflow while sending one feed to several connected channels. Verify the service’s current destination support and plan limits before relying on them; these details can change.
Set up the destinations and go live
Option A: Send from an encoder to multiple platforms
- Open each platform’s live setup. Create or schedule the live broadcast as required and retrieve that platform’s server URL and stream key, if it uses them.
- Add each destination in your encoder. Enter the matching URL and key for each platform using the encoder’s multi-output feature. The labels and setup vary by encoder, so follow its current documentation.
- Check output and network capacity. Confirm the encoder can send to all selected destinations at your chosen settings, and that your connection can sustain the outgoing feeds.
- Start a test broadcast. Check that video and audio arrive correctly at each destination before announcing or beginning the public event.
- Start the live production. Start the encoder outputs and confirm each platform shows the feed as live.
Option B: Send one feed through a cloud relay
- Connect the social accounts. In the relay service, authorize YouTube and each additional destination you intend to use.
- Create a stream and choose the input method. Restream documents a flow that lets you create a stream, choose Studio or encoder/RTMP, and select connected channels.
- Connect your encoder if using one. For OBS with Restream, choose Restream as the service and paste the Restream stream key. Use the relay key for the relay input—not YouTube’s direct stream key.
- Select the destinations. Enable the connected channels you want to receive the broadcast, then verify the correct accounts are selected.
- Test, then go live. Confirm the relay receives your feed and the destinations display it before starting the event. Restream’s current connection steps are documented in its YouTube and Facebook setup guide.
Direct YouTube encoder delivery is a different path
If you are sending directly to YouTube rather than through a relay, enter YouTube’s server URL and YouTube stream key in the encoder. Do not substitute a relay’s key in that direct connection. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain how to connect and end an encoder stream.

End the broadcast and check the archive
When the event is over, end the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room and stop the encoder feed, following YouTube’s current workflow. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Check the resulting video in Studio rather than assuming an archive was created, especially if the stream ran longer.

Troubleshoot common simulcasting problems
- YouTube will not let you start a live stream: Check whether live streaming is enabled and whether the channel has completed the first-time activation wait. YouTube states this can take at least 24 hours after the initial request.
- One platform is offline while the others work: Check that destination’s account status, authorization, server URL, and stream key. Confirm that the destination is enabled in the encoder or relay.
- The encoder connects to the wrong service or cannot authenticate: Check that you used the correct destination URL and key. A relay input requires its relay key; a direct YouTube input requires YouTube’s URL and key.
- Video or audio is unstable across destinations: Test the connection and the full output configuration. YouTube emphasizes adequate upload speed, and the capacity needed varies with bitrate and routing method.
- A relay destination is unavailable or capped: Check current platform support and the relay’s plan and channel limits. Do not assume a destination or limit documented earlier is still available on the same terms.
- The replay is missing: Check the stream’s duration and YouTube Studio. The automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours; for longer broadcasts, verify the current archive and processing status.
Or let it run in the cloud
Simulcasting a live camera or hosted production requires the encoder or studio workflow above. If instead you want uploaded videos to keep a YouTube channel live 24/7, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos on YouTube; it does not stream from a camera or distribute to other social platforms.
