As a rough planning reference—not an FS1 measurement—FOX’s 2018 technical paper estimates that compressed video at 60 frames per second uses about 3.3 GB per hour at 720p or 5.4 GB per hour at 1080p. Your actual use depends on the stream quality delivered by your service and viewing setup.
How much data should you budget for an hour of FS1?
There is no verified universal number for FS1. FOX’s published estimates below describe general compressed video at 60 frames per second, not a measured FS1 stream. Treat them as ballpark figures rather than a promise about what your app or device will use.

Why actual FS1 data use varies
FOX says viewing quality—including resolution and startup time—may vary with subscription plan, content format, location, internet or mobile bandwidth, and device. A service may adjust quality as conditions change, so two people watching the same event can use different amounts of data. FOX does not document one universal FS1 quality setting available across every app and device.

FOX’s terms also say that use of its services may count toward the viewer’s data allowance according to their internet service provider agreement. See the FOX Sports Interactive Media Terms of Use for its data-usage and viewing-quality terms.
How to estimate your own viewing
- Choose a planning scenario. For a capped connection, use the 720p or 1080p estimate above only as a rough reference; the actual stream may differ.
- Check the app or player. If it offers a quality control, review it. Do not assume the same control exists on every platform.
- Measure a known viewing period. Note the device or mobile carrier’s data counter, watch for a set period, then check the counter again. This gives you a more relevant estimate for your service, device, and network than a generic table.
- Check your provider’s allowance and charges. Mobile and home internet data rules depend on your provider agreement.
Where FS1 streaming access fits in
Access options depend on service and device. FOX Sports’ current FAQ says FOX One became the home for FOX Sports on TVs and connected devices beginning May 7, 2026, while the FOX Sports App remains available on phones and tablets. FOX also says major providers offer access to FS1 through the FOX Sports App, though availability can differ by provider or platform. Check FOX’s streaming FAQs and FS1’s provider and channel information for current access details.

An older FOX FAQ discusses FOX Sports GO, but it should be read as historical information rather than a current guide to the full app lineup. It is not needed to estimate data use.

If the service you use offers a lower-quality setting, selecting it can reduce data use, generally at the cost of picture detail. FOX’s materials do not establish a universal manual quality control for FS1 on every device. YouTube’s instructions for manual quality and data-saver settings apply to YouTube, not FOX; they do not show that equivalent controls are available in FOX apps. See YouTube’s quality-setting help only if you are managing data for YouTube viewing.
