For someone in India watching a 24/7 YouTube Live loop, Jio’s general video estimates range from up to 7.2 GB a day at low quality to 168 GB a day at Ultra HD. A broadcaster sending the loop needs a different calculation: at YouTube’s recommended H.264 settings, 1080p30 uses about 152.6 GB of upload data per day including stereo audio. Neither figure is a YouTube-specific guarantee; the right estimate depends on playback or encoder settings.
First, distinguish watching from broadcasting
“Data use” can mean either the data your device downloads while watching a stream or the data an encoder uploads while sending a continuous stream to YouTube. They are not interchangeable. YouTube also transcodes live streams into output formats for viewers, so a broadcaster’s upload bitrate is not the same as each viewer’s download rate.

- Watching: estimate downloads using the playback quality and time watched. Jio’s India-facing estimates are general video figures, not YouTube-specific measurements.
- Broadcasting: estimate uploads from the stream’s video and audio bitrates and how long it runs.
How much a viewer may download in India
Jio lists up to 0.3 GB per hour for low-quality video, 0.7 GB for medium, 1 GB for high, 3 GB for HD, and 7 GB for Ultra HD. The following daily and monthly totals extrapolate those hourly estimates across continuous viewing; the monthly column uses 30 days.
Recommended Free Tools
| Jio quality category | Estimated per hour | 24 hours | 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | Up to 0.3 GB | Up to 7.2 GB | Up to 216 GB |
| Medium | Up to 0.7 GB | Up to 16.8 GB | Up to 504 GB |
| High | Up to 1 GB | Up to 24 GB | Up to 720 GB |
| HD | Up to 3 GB | Up to 72 GB | Up to 2,160 GB |
| Ultra HD | Up to 7 GB | Up to 168 GB | Up to 5,040 GB (5.04 TB) |
These figures are arithmetic extrapolations from Jio’s general estimates, not measured YouTube traffic. Jio says actual use can differ by app or website and recommends checking the specific video service. The page is undated; the estimates were accessed in 2026. A device or provider dashboard may display binary units or round totals differently.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Estimate your own viewing
Use this formula: provider estimate in GB per hour × 24 × number of days watched. Your actual total depends on selected playback quality and app behavior. To reduce mobile-data use, lower the playback quality and monitor your device or provider’s usage meter. Jio says YouTube quality can be changed in the player’s quality controls during playback. See Jio’s instructions for managing video-streaming data.
How much data a broadcaster uploads
For a channel transmitting its own loop, calculate from the encoder’s bitrate—not from the viewer estimates. A sustained 1 Mbps transfers about 10.8 decimal GB in 24 hours. The calculation is bitrate in megabits per second × 10.8 = GB per day; multiply daily use by 30 for a 30-day month.

YouTube’s H.264 recommendations include separate video and audio bitrates. The figures below assume continuous streaming for 24 hours a day and use the listed 128 Kbps stereo audio rate. Totals are arithmetic estimates, not measured traffic; they exclude protocol overhead and downtime.
| H.264 video setting | Recommended video bitrate | Video upload per day | With 128 Kbps stereo audio per day | With audio over 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps | 86.4 GB | 87.8 GB | About 2.63 TB |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps | 86.4 GB | 87.8 GB | About 2.63 TB |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps | 151.2 GB | 152.6 GB | About 4.58 TB |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | 183.6 GB | 185.0 GB | About 5.55 TB |
These settings apply to H.264; YouTube gives different recommendations for AV1 and H.265/HEVC. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings for the codec and configuration you use. The guidance was accessed on 2026-10-03 and provides recommendations, not a guarantee of actual transfer totals.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
What changes a broadcaster’s total
- Bitrate: a higher video or audio bitrate transfers more data per hour.
- Resolution, frame rate and codec: these affect the recommended encoder bitrate; H.264 figures should not be applied universally to other codecs.
- Uptime: multiply by the hours actually transmitted, rather than assuming a full day if the stream is interrupted.
- Network overhead: real traffic can exceed the arithmetic estimate because the calculation excludes protocol overhead.
For decimal units, 1 GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes and 1 TB is 1,000 GB. Your ISP’s allowance or dashboard may use different unit conventions.
What to do with these estimates
If you are watching on mobile data
Choose a lower playback quality if you need to conserve data, then check the device or provider usage meter. The Jio totals are useful as a planning range, not as an exact YouTube bill forecast.

If you are transmitting the loop
Check your encoder’s configured video and audio bitrates and how many hours it will run. Estimate the upload requirement from those values, then compare it with your connection’s monthly allowance. Do not budget broadcaster uploads using viewer-download estimates.
