There is no single data total for every 24/7 recorded class stream: usage depends mainly on the video quality actually delivered and the time it plays. As a planning estimate, Jio lists up to 3 GB per hour for HD video. At that rate, uninterrupted viewing works out to about 72 GB a day or 2,160 GB over 30 days. These are calculations from Jio’s general estimate, not measurements of a particular class stream.
Estimated data use by video quality
Jio’s help page gives general estimates for video streaming and cautions that usage varies by application or website. Multiplying each hourly estimate by 24 gives a day; multiplying by 720 gives a 30-day month. The figures below assume the stream plays continuously at the stated quality.

Jio’s video-streaming guidance says higher-resolution video uses more data and that consumption can vary by app or website. A class played through an adaptive streaming service may shift quality as conditions change, so the table is a planning range rather than a bill prediction.

How to estimate usage from a known bitrate
If you know the steady bitrate actually delivered to the viewer, a useful decimal-unit calculation is 10.8 GB per day and 324 GB per 30-day month for every 1 Mbps. This is arithmetic: 1 megabit per second divided by eight bits per byte, multiplied by the seconds in a day. For example, multiply those figures by the bitrate in Mbps to estimate the stream alone; add any other household internet activity separately.

Do not treat a creator’s YouTube encoder setting as the viewer’s measured bitrate. YouTube’s live encoder recommendations describe settings for sending a stream into YouTube, not a guaranteed playback rate for each viewer. Its H.264 guidance includes 3–8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps and 5–14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps; those are ingest recommendations, not viewer-side data-use figures.
Will a 24/7 class stream exceed an Indian broadband data limit?
Compare the estimated monthly stream usage with the exact data threshold and post-threshold speed on your own broadband plan. A headline download speed does not tell you whether a plan will throttle or otherwise change service after a usage cap.

For scale, BharatNet’s official FTTH page lists examples with thresholds of 700 GB, 1,400 GB, 5,000 GB and 6,000 GB, followed by reduced speeds. At Jio’s illustrative HD rate, 2,160 GB over 30 days is above the 700 GB and 1,400 GB examples, but below the 5,000 GB and 6,000 GB examples. The illustrative Ultra HD estimate of 5,040 GB is close to or above the larger examples. These are BharatNet offer examples, not limits that apply to every Indian ISP or household; eligibility and terms depend on the plan.
Check the subscriber’s plan terms and, where available, the provider’s usage meter. An actual account reading is more useful than a generic estimate for a stream whose platform, quality and bitrate are unknown. BharatNet’s FTTH plan page illustrates that a plan can specify both a data amount and slower service after that amount.

What changes the total
- Delivered quality and bitrate: Higher-resolution video generally uses more data; Jio’s broad estimates span from up to 0.3 GB per hour at low quality to up to 7 GB per hour at Ultra HD.
- Streaming service behavior: Apps and websites can use data differently, and adaptive playback may change quality during the stream.
- Hours played: Scale the hourly rate by actual play time. A stream running fewer than 24 hours a day uses less than the full-day estimates.
- Other household use: The broadband allowance is shared with other devices and activities. TRAI-hosted material notes that several devices may use a fixed broadband connection at once, with speed needs varying by application, location and number of users.
- Plan threshold and post-limit terms: Data consumed and the service available after a limit are separate questions. Check both in your provider’s terms.
TRAI-hosted NCAER material from 2012 gives historical bandwidth context of about 2 Mbps per video-streaming channel and 4–8 Mbps per HD video channel; it is not a current usage guarantee. Netflix currently recommends 3 Mbps or higher for 720p and 5 Mbps or higher for 1080p playback, while noting that quality depends on multiple factors. Those are playback-speed recommendations for Netflix, not measurements of a recorded class stream’s data consumption.
