To check your reported lifetime catch total, open your Trainer Profile and look under Total Activity. That figure is different from the Pokédex, which tracks Pokémon species you have seen and caught.

On your Trainer Profile, find Total Activity and check the lifetime figures. A current guide identifies this section as the place to see the number of Pokémon caught; Niantic describes Total Activity as part of the Trainer Profile but does not explicitly identify a catch-total field in its help text. Pokédex entries are not your lifetime catch count
The Pokédex answers a collection question: which Pokémon species you have seen and caught. Niantic says it tracks both, with caught species shown in color and species seen but not caught shown as silhouettes. It is organized by region and includes categories such as Shiny, Lucky, and Gigantamax Pokémon. Niantic’s Pokédex help
A species registered in the Pokédex is not the same thing as one individual catch. For a species collection view, open Main Menu → Pokédex; for your reported lifetime catch total, use Trainer Profile → Total Activity.

Can friends see your catch number?
Niantic says friends can see the number of Pokémon you have caught when they open your Trainer Profile from the Friend List. You can turn off showing friends which Pokémon you have caught in Settings. This controls visibility to friends; it does not delete or change your catch history. Niantic’s Friend List help
