The six processors on Intel’s Pentium Silver series roster each have four CPU cores. That includes models from different generations and device segments, so check the exact model number: “Pentium Silver” alone does not tell you its clocks, power use, or real-world performance.
Which Pentium Silver models have four cores?
Intel’s series roster lists six Pentium Silver processors, each with four total cores. The listed launch quarters and specifications are manufacturer figures, not benchmark results.

| Model | Intel-listed launch quarter | Base frequency | Cache | TDP | Cores |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| N6000 | Q1 2021 | 1.10 GHz | 4 MB | 6 W | 4 |
| N6005 | Q1 2021 | 2.00 GHz | 4 MB | 10 W | 4 |
| J5040 | Q4 2019 | 2.00 GHz | 4 MB | 10 W | 4 |
| N5030 | Q4 2019 | 1.10 GHz | 4 MB | 6 W | 4 |
| J5005 | Q4 2017 | 1.50 GHz | 4 MB | 10 W | 4 |
| N5000 | Q4 2017 | 1.10 GHz | 4 MB | 6 W | 4 |
These are the models Intel lists on its Pentium Silver series page. A four-core count is not exclusive to this brand tier: Intel also lists the Celeron N4500 at two cores and the Celeron N5100 at four cores, while the Pentium Silver N6000 has four. Intel’s comparison page shows those models’ core and thread counts.

Are four cores the same as four threads?
No. Cores are the processor’s physical CPU cores; threads are the execution threads the processor reports. Intel specifies both the Pentium Silver N6000 and N5000 as four cores and four threads. The figures match for these two models, but core count and thread count are separate specification fields; check both for the particular processor you are considering. See Intel’s series roster and its N5000 specifications.

What differs between the N5000 and N6000?
Both are four-core, four-thread processors with a 1.10 GHz base frequency, 4 MB cache, and 6 W TDP. Their generations and other specifications differ:
| Specification | Pentium Silver N5000 | Pentium Silver N6000 |
|---|---|---|
| Intel-formerly product family | Gemini Lake | Jasper Lake |
| Lithography | 14 nm | 10 nm |
| Maximum burst frequency | Up to 2.70 GHz | Up to 3.30 GHz |
| Cache | 4 MB | 4 MB Intel Smart Cache; product brief breaks this down as 1.5 MB L2 plus 4 MB L3 |
| Memory information | Not stated in the cited specifications here (Intel product page) | Two channels; DDR4-2933 or LPDDR4x-2933 (Intel product brief) |
| Graphics information | Not stated in the cited specifications here (Intel product page) | Intel UHD Graphics, frequency up to 850 MHz (Intel product brief) |
Intel’s product pages identify the N5000 with Gemini Lake and the N6000 with Jasper Lake. Intel lists the N5000 as discontinued and gives December 31, 2024, as its end-of-servicing-updates date; that status describes Intel’s product support listing, not whether a particular computer is available or serviceable. Does four-core Pentium Silver mean a fast computer?
Not on its own. Core count tells you how many CPU cores the model has; it does not provide a complete performance rating or guarantee how responsive a particular computer will feel. For example, Intel lists the N6000 at a 1.10 GHz base frequency and up to 3.30 GHz burst frequency, with 4 MB cache and 6 W TDP. The other Pentium Silver models have different clocks and TDPs, as the table above shows.

Intel’s specifications establish processor features, not results for a particular application or whole computer. When comparing systems, use the exact processor model and look at the complete configuration rather than treating the shared four-core figure as a speed ranking.

Can you upgrade a computer to a Pentium Silver N6000?
Do not assume that the N6000 is a drop-in desktop CPU. Intel classifies it as a mobile processor with an FCBGA1338 package, a package type that does not make it a routine socketed consumer upgrade. Check the computer’s service documentation and motherboard design before considering any processor change. For most buyers, comparing complete laptops or compact PCs is the more relevant route; assess each system’s memory, storage, ports, cooling, graphics capability, and serviceability alongside its processor.
