Its published roadmap calls for monthly security updates for about two years, then “bi-monthly” updates from June 2028 until support ends. These are Fairphone’s commitments, not confirmation that every planned update has already been delivered. Fairphone’s release notes are the model-specific source for the schedule.
What updates does the Fairphone (Gen. 6+) get?
- Android: At least six Android version upgrades, according to Fairphone’s 2026 release notes.
- Security: At least seven years of security updates, with support stated to end in June 2033.
- Cadence: Monthly security updates for about two years, followed by “bi-monthly” updates from June 2028 until the stated support end date.
The phone launched in 2026 with Android 16. Fairphone’s Fairphone Gen 6+ product page also states that software support continues until 2033. The release notes provide the more specific upgrade count, security duration and schedule.

Fairphone uses the term “bi-monthly” for the later cadence. Because that term can be interpreted in more than one way, it is best to preserve the company’s wording rather than assume a more precise interval.
How the Gen. 6+ differs from the Fairphone (Gen. 6)
The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) and the earlier Fairphone (Gen. 6) have separate support commitments. The figures for the original Gen. 6 should not be applied to the Gen. 6+.

Both schedules above come from Fairphone’s model-specific release notes. Fairphone’s general support article has a Gen. 6 section stating eight years of security support; that figure belongs to the original Gen. 6, not the Gen. 6+.

June 2033 is Fairphone’s stated end date for Gen. 6+ software support, and “at least” describes the company’s minimum commitment. The roadmap does not guarantee that every Android upgrade or security update will arrive on a particular date, nor does it establish that future releases have already shipped. Update delivery can vary over time.
