It depends on the battery, the exact device and its operating setting—there is no single runtime for every Milwaukee battery. Milwaukee defines runtime as how long a battery runs before it needs recharging. Its published figures are specific to the model, battery and mode named, not universal guarantees or independent test results.
Milwaukee battery runtime examples
These are Milwaukee-published product specifications. The product pages reviewed do not state when each figure was published, and they do not provide a common test protocol for comparing different devices.

| Device | Battery | Setting | Published runtime |
|---|---|---|---|
| M18 Brushless 18-inch Fan (0821-20) | M18 XC5.0 | High | 2 hours |
| M18 Brushless 18-inch Fan (0821-20) | M18 XC5.0 | Low | 9 hours |
| M18 Brushless 18-inch Fan (0821-20) | M18 HD12.0 | High | 5 hours |
| M18 Brushless 18-inch Fan (0821-20) | M18 HD12.0 | Low | 23 hours |
| M12 Mounting Fan (0820-20) | M12 XC6.0 | Milwaukee’s “up to” runtime | Up to 16 hours |
| M18 Stick Light (2352-20) | M18 XC5.0 | High, 300 lumens | 17 hours |
| M18 Stick Light (2352-20) | M18 XC5.0 | Low, 150 lumens | 36 hours |
The operating mode can make a substantial difference: Milwaukee lists nine hours on low versus two hours on high for the 0821-20 fan with an XC5.0 battery. A larger-capacity battery also changes the manufacturer’s stated figures for that fan. These examples should not be used to predict the runtime of a different device.

- Check the battery system. Read the label and confirm the device accepts that system. M12 and M18 are distinct systems; matching amp-hour numbers do not make their batteries interchangeable. Milwaukee says the system designation identifies the associated tool system and voltage.
- Note the battery capacity. Milwaukee says the capacity number at the end of the battery label represents amp-hours; a higher number means longer runtime. Capacity alone is not enough to calculate a guaranteed runtime for a particular device.
- Find the exact device and mode. Use the runtime listed for the specific model, battery and setting. Fan high and low settings, for example, have different published figures.
- Interpret the wording carefully. “Up to” is a manufacturer-stated maximum, not a promise that every user will get that duration. If no runtime is published for your exact combination, an exact figure is unavailable; another model’s specification cannot reliably fill the gap.
What about other Milwaukee devices?
The light and fan examples show why a general answer to “How long does a Milwaukee M18 battery last?” is misleading. Milwaukee lists 17 hours on high and 36 hours on low for the M18 Stick Light (2352-20) with an XC5.0 battery, but that light’s figures do not predict how long the same battery will run a radio, fan or other tool. Look for the specification for the exact device and setting.

Milwaukee’s older M18 Jobsite Fan (0886-20) page says the product is no longer available and lists up to 17 hours on low with an XC5.0 battery. Treat that only as a historical, model-specific figure, not as a current buying recommendation.
