The process varies by device: desktop users download and run an installer, while Android and iOS users install through their app stores. Initial setup prompts—and any separate activation of paid features—come after or alongside installation.
Why there is no reliable installation-time estimate
Avast’s installation instructions explain the steps but do not give a duration or a timeout that defines when setup is stalled. They also do not quantify how connection speed, device performance, or other conditions affect elapsed time. Treat any precise time estimate as an individual experience, not an official guarantee.

Installation and setup are not identical across platforms, so the number of steps is not a sound way to rank which device will finish fastest. Avast’s documented instructions show what to expect, but they do not include measured platform-by-platform comparisons.

Windows
Download the installer, open it, approve the Windows User Account Control prompt if it appears, and select Install. When setup finishes, continue into Avast One. Avast’s installation guide does not specify how long these steps should take.

Mac
Download and open the installer image, then follow the privacy, license, user, and installation prompts. macOS may ask you to allow required system settings or permissions. These additional prompts describe the setup flow; Avast does not publish a time comparison with Windows.
Android
Open the Avast One listing in Google Play, tap Install, and tap Open when the app is installed. Initial setup can include welcome screens and permission requests.

iPhone and iPad
Open the Avast One listing in the App Store, download and open the app, then follow the initial setup prompts. Avast does not provide a separate duration for the app-store download or configuration.

Check compatibility before starting
Avast’s current system requirements page identifies Avast One 26.x and lists different supported operating systems and resource requirements by platform. Requirements can change, so check the current Avast system requirements for your device before downloading. The listed minimums are compatibility criteria, not installation-time benchmarks.

Internet access is required to download, activate, and maintain the application and its updates. Avast does not state how a particular connection or device changes installation duration.
Installation is separate from paid-feature activation
Avast One includes free and paid features. If you have a subscription, activating its paid features may involve signing in to an Avast Account, entering an activation code, or restoring an app-store purchase. The available route depends on the platform and how the subscription was purchased. Avast’s Avast One activation instructions explain the applicable options. Completing activation is not the same as installing the app, and Avast does not publish a combined duration for both.

If installation does not appear to finish
Avast does not define a universal wait time after which installation should be considered stuck. If setup fails or appears unable to continue, follow the platform-specific guidance rather than relying on an invented time limit.

- On Windows, check for incompatible applications, remove conflicts if appropriate, restart the device, and try installing again.
- For mobile installation issues, check the requirements and consult Avast Support for platform-specific help.
- If the problem persists, contact Avast Support.
