Samsung announced up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades, plus six years of security updates, for the 2025 Galaxy A56 5G, A36 5G and A26 5G. The 2024 Galaxy A55 5G and A35 5G, and the 2023 Galaxy A54 5G and A34 5G, were each announced with up to four generations of OS and One UI upgrades and five years of security updates. These are model-specific commitments, not a promise for every Galaxy A phone.
Galaxy A-series update commitments by model
Samsung states the following maximum support terms for these models:

| Models | Android OS and One UI upgrades | Security updates |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy A56 5G, A36 5G and A26 5G (2025 announcement) | Up to six generations | Six years |
| Galaxy A55 5G and A35 5G (2024 announcement) | Up to four generations | Five years |
| Galaxy A54 5G and A34 5G (2023 announcement) | Up to four generations | Five years |
Samsung’s 2025 announcement describes the newer models as receiving “up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates” (Samsung, 2025). Its 2024 announcement gives the A55 5G and A35 5G up to four generations and five years (Samsung, 2024); the 2023 announcement sets the same terms for the A54 5G and A34 5G (Samsung, 2023).
What the two update numbers mean
Android OS and One UI upgrade generations count major software upgrades. Security-update years are a separate commitment for security patches. A phone with six years of security updates is not therefore promised six years of Android version upgrades; Samsung’s published figures pair a generation limit with a separate security-update duration.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

The words “up to” matter: they describe Samsung’s stated maximum, not a guarantee that every model receives every release on the same date. Samsung says One UI upgrade availability and timing can vary by device model and by the timing of Android OS upgrades (Samsung’s 2022 policy announcement).
Why there is no single answer for the whole A series
Samsung has announced different terms for different generations of Galaxy A phones. The six-generation, six-year commitment in the 2025 announcement applies to the A56 5G, A36 5G and A26 5G named there; it should not be applied automatically to older A-series models or to an A-series model not listed in that announcement.

Likewise, a rollout announcement identifies devices planned to receive a particular release; it does not establish each device’s full support duration or final patch date. Samsung’s 2025 One UI 8 rollout announcement lists selected A-series devices, but is not a replacement for a model-specific support commitment (Samsung Newsroom U.S., 2025).

- Identify the exact model. Check the model name in Settings or on the device packaging; do not rely only on a broad label such as “Galaxy A.”
- Check Samsung’s support information for your market. Use the regional Samsung support page for that exact model to confirm its current update status and schedule. Availability and timing can vary by model and market.
- Distinguish a release schedule from a support promise. A list showing an upcoming Android or One UI rollout answers whether a particular release is planned; it does not by itself give the model’s full upgrade count or final security-update date.
The announcements cited here do not establish an exact start date for every individual model’s support clock or a precise final patch date for every regional variant. For that reason, the published durations should not be converted into a calendar end date without checking the exact model and market.

What these commitments do—and do not—tell you
The announcements state support durations, not an independent measure of how long a phone remains usable, how consistently patches arrive, or how quickly every carrier and region receives them. A longer published commitment is a useful comparison point, but it does not establish identical delivery timing across all versions of a model.
