1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteLioran’s described storage layout treats an S3 object key as a logical name, not as a path to a file on disk. When a request arrives, metadata maps the bucket and key to a separately assigned physical location beneath the configured data root. That distinction is the reason a key such as users/42/avatar.png does not automatically become /data/users/42/avatar.png.
What an object key identifies
An object key answers the logical question, “What object does this key represent?” It is the identifier clients use within a bucket. It does not, by itself, specify where the object’s payload must live on a server’s filesystem.

This distinction is also part of Amazon S3’s general object model: a bucket contains objects in a flat namespace, while prefixes and delimiters can make keys look like folders in interfaces and SDKs. A console may create a zero-byte folder-marker object, but that marker is still an object rather than a native directory. AWS documentation on object keys

The Lioran article describes an indirection layer: the request’s bucket and logical key are looked up in metadata, and that metadata supplies a physical relative path for the payload. The physical placement is described as derived from an internal object ID, not from the user-provided key.

The article’s example places committed objects under an objects/ directory, using two ID-derived prefix levels and an ID-based filename. This means that changing or choosing a logical key does not dictate the payload’s file path. These implementation details are descriptions in the Lioran article, not independently verified source-code findings. Lioran’s storage-layout article
What happens during writes and reads
Normal writes
According to the Lioran article, a normal PUT first writes to a staging file named using a generated staging UUID. After the object is committed, its payload is placed in the object area using the ID-derived location. The staging name and final path therefore do not come from the supplied key. Multipart uploads
Multipart uploads use generated upload identifiers and generated part filenames for temporary data. The logical key identifies the object being assembled, while temporary part locations are separately named. Lioran’s storage-layout article
Reads and range requests
For a GET, the described flow starts with metadata lookup, resolves the physical relative path under the configured data root, and then opens the payload. Range reads use the same mapping and read only the requested portion. A key is thus used to find the metadata record; it is not appended to the data-root path as a filesystem instruction. Why an object-store key is not automatically a folder path
Slashes in keys are useful for organizing names, filtering by prefixes, and presenting a folder-like view. They do not require an object store to create corresponding directories. AWS describes S3 as a flat data model; applications can interpret prefixes and delimiters to show hierarchy without that hierarchy being native to the stored objects. AWS documentation on object keys
That is different from a filesystem, where a path such as users/42/avatar.png is interpreted through directory components to locate a file. An object-storage service can instead treat that same string as one key, then resolve it through metadata to a payload stored elsewhere.

What the path separation does—and does not—establish
Swaraj Puppalwar, identified in the Lioran article as Founder & CTO of Lioran Group / Lioran Developer Solutions, states: “Raw user object keys are NEVER used directly as filesystem paths.” That is a clear description of the intended design boundary, but it is the author’s claim, not an independent security audit. The available description does not establish a measured security improvement or performance result. Lioran’s storage-layout article

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The separation matters because user-controlled names do not directly supply the filesystem location in the described flow. Still, a logical key can be processed by clients, SDKs, gateways, or other tools before it reaches storage. AWS specifically warns that standalone period segments such as . and .. may be normalized inconsistently by applications and recommends avoiding period-only path segments in keys. That interoperability warning is separate from Lioran’s claimed physical-path mapping rule. AWS documentation on object keys

What changes when object storage is exposed as files
A file gateway is an adapter between file operations and object keys, not proof that the underlying object store is a native filesystem. AWS File Gateway maps files written through a share to objects, using file paths as keys. Its documentation explains that a rename is implemented through copy requests to new keys followed by deletion of the old objects; directory renames can take time and temporarily leave two copies. AWS File Gateway overview AWS Storage Gateway FAQ
This illustrates why the interface matters: a client may see familiar file operations, while the service translates them into object-store operations with different underlying behavior. In Lioran’s described layout, the key-to-metadata-to-payload mapping is the central separation; a gateway adds another translation layer when it presents file paths to clients.
